Random vs sequential serials

Is there a desirability difference between both in the market?

And I'm guessing there's no way to find out based on a random what production year you're looking at?

Nope...although in general, newer models will tend to command higher prices.

Not really, but you can look at the purchase date on the warranty card to get you in the ball park.

Subtle changes on the watches help identify approximate age if papers aren't available. Even the box and hang tags can help.
