30% off Ebay gray sellers - vs 10% AD

I'm looking at Sky Dweller prices - on ebay they go for about $34-35K brand new - which is about 30% off. My AD is only giving me 10-12% off - and then there's an 8% tax, so the "out of the door" price is pretty close to MSRP.

So I was wondering if anyone could recommend an ebay gray dealer or share their experience with buying from one?

Also, ebay dealers say their watches come with Rolex's 5 years international warranty - would I be able to service a watch in the USA under that warranty, or would I have to go through the gray dealer I bought the watch from to service it?

Apologies if it's been asked before - I tried to search for similar topics, but didn't succeed..

That is something you have to ask the eBay seller directly as each seller is different.

Also, spending 35k on eBay seems insane to me but I'm just a pleb, I guess.

I'm very uneasy about spending more than a couple hundred dollars on ebay - but the price difference between gray dealers and ADs is so great - I'm starting to feel very uneasy about spending 45K at AD too.. Maybe I should just get SS DateJust and call it a day)

Plenty of great sellers in this forum and on ebay, sometimes both are in the same places..
That is not a run of the mill watch that is flying off the shelf.
Ask for references for these sellers..

Just do the homework and check out the seller. Forget the AD

Has anyone had any success convincing AD to get closer to gray dealer prices? Long shot probably?

Demesy has got one for $33,500.
And he is from Texas. You could pick it up from him.

Great, thank you! Are they AD or just happen to sell Rolex among other things?

Large watch dealer. Has been around as long as I can remember. Sold him a pocket watch or 2 , maybe 20 years ago.
Always has a lot of Rolexes in stock. If he doesn't have it he can probably get it.
There are alot of dealers from Texas, he is just the first one I could think of. If you cannot find a gray dealer with a Sky Dweller in Texas, I don't think you could find it anywhere.

Anyway, it appears Demesy has it in stock, he has been around along time, and I don't think he is going anywhere.
I would say give him a call, confirm it is in stock.
Bring cash and you may get him down more.

But it's ok on TRF with absolutely NO recourse if you've been scammed?

Buy the seller, there are guys that have been selling watches waaaaaaaaaaay longer then the sellers here.

Thank you for the referral. How do you like the SKD? Did it come with US warranty?

I'm also thinking about selling or trading in my current watch - I see you were able to trade in yours? Do you think you would have gotten much more for it if you were to ebay it? Initially I wanted to buy a Rolex from the same company where I bought my Omega - but they offered me around $150 - while I see these Omegas are selling for around $1200 on ebay. So I declined..

I agree - and also I had a discussion with a trusted seller here - and it seems that being a new member I would not be able to pay via PayPal.. I don't feel comfortable wiring that much money to anybody, so it seems either AD or ebay are the only choices..

The advice on this Forum, so often, is to do your homework and choose your seller carefully. Sellers need to do the same thing. Do not be insulted by the fact that this trusted seller is being so careful about who he sells to.......

Given the "choice" between e-bay and an AD is, IMO, a no brainer. Go with the AD.

Just my 2 cents..........

I was not insulted at, I completely understand that it's a lot of money at stake, so everybody should be careful.
As far as AD - the price difference is about $10k for the same watch between AD and ebay. Doesn't make me more confident in ebay, but makes me less willing to overpay with AD..

I agree, $10K is alot of money.

Have you thought about doing a face-to-face deal with a trusted seller. Cut your best deal with one of them and then purchase a plane ticket to the airport closest to them. Even factoring in the cost of the plane ticket, you'll still save alot of money and eliminate both yours and the seller's worries about the transfer of the funds.

Good luck!

This sounds a little too extreme to me - instead of buying online and paying via PayPal - flying to another city with a pocket full of cash. I'm not there yet :)

I would trust a good trusted seller here over any seller on eBay. Get in contact with a seller here with a great reputation and multiple prior transactions, wire the funds, and open it in the comfort of your home when received. You will also save thousands in the process. The sellers here do not make their business upon scamming people out of money, they build their business upon a great level of trust.

Please don't buy something for 35k on eBay. Send me a DM ill send you to 5 sellers on here that will not only give you a better price or close to that price but you'll get a safer transaction.
