Paid full price in an AD last year for a white steel Daytona....
I had waited a long time for the opportunity and little was I to know that it was toward the end of production. An absolute steal..... |

Not to beat a dead horse, but just a quick follow up to those on our site that say they would always offer a fair deal....
Two scenarios: You call about a used car and the seller offers you an incredible deal because he didn't take the time to accurately price his product...are you going to correct him and say...I know your offering $3,000 for the car, but the book value is $6,000, so I'll give you the book value.......I don't think so..... Same thing for those of you buying a house........ The seller offers his home for sale, you submit an offer at his asking price, but the appraisal comes in $10,000 higher than your offer price...in the name good conciousness, are you going to just pony up the extra $10K to the seller, simply in the name of moral fortitude?....I challenge anyone who says they would.....it is no different than buying a watch, a car, or a house, or anything else. |

Pawn shops have to make money to stay in business. You have overhead costs, employee expenses, and the risk of possibly buying stolen goods (and thus taking a loss on that when the police come to take it back). Have any of you guys who are judging ever hung out in a pawn shop? Most of the people I have seen are not crack heads and thieves. Sometimes people would rather sell an item low to a pawn shop because they don't want to waste their time trying to sell it for more money on craigslist or forums. Some people place a high value on their time.

What a bunch of hypocrites.... the job of the pawn shop is to buy items as cheap as possible and sell them for as much as possible. I'm sure you doctors and lawyers on here only charge a fair rate of $20 an hour right? I'm sure you tech guys only sell your internet company for a a few percent more than what it cost you to develop right? No one would buy stock cheap and sell it high would they?
And this is coming from a cop who does not particularly like pawn shops, but geez... |

60's Blancpain Fifty Fathoms No Radiation
About a decade ago I was offered a 60's FF No Radiation for $1500. I took it as it was a pretty good deal at the time. Today, it has turned out to be a fantastic one.
I like to focus on this one to help me forget the likely 100 deals since then I lost on! |

I got pulled over by three CHP cars because the CHP plane had clocked me at "speeds in exes of 160 and never below 115 miles per hour for over twenty minuets." I got away with an 80mph in a 70 zone and a fix-it ticket.
Hands down my "best steal ever."

Tudor's are quite SOFT right now on preowned market. Hard CASH on the Datejust complete is around $3200 - $3500. So the purchase was below market, but again, given it was a pawn shop, it is an understandable BUY price. |

The very nature of free trade is that you end up with a deal that both parties agree on, nobody is making people sell low. If the sellers aren't happy with the price they are receiving, they will go elsewhere.

Pawn shops typically pay about 40% of anticipated sale price. I wouldn't EXPECT to get more than $3000 for a blue Pelagos regardless if its box and papers and basically new. $1200 likely was the initial offer from the store. Do you all honestly think a pawn shop can offer anywhere near retail and stay in business? If you need quick, easy cash, they can make that happen.

Wow, there is a lot of moral superiority being thrown around over a couple consensual watch deals. Not to mention a lot of assumptions and stereotypes on pawn shops.
