Does anyone remember what premium was being charged for he BLNR in the UK when it first came out? It would be and interesting comparison.

Fair point; to each his own and all that but paying not far off double the MSRP is absolutely bonkers. Even more so when you consider what other watches are available for that sort of cash. A few quid more (speaking relatively here) would get you a mint PM Daytona with a ceramic bezel. Haggle hard enough in some parts of the world and you get a new one.

It didn't! They were readily available later that year after Basel it was only a while later did they pick up and then Brexit pushed them above retail.

D-Blue was the same over here.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's only been the Daytona that has maintained a premium or stayed very close to retail for the long run must others have been blips so to speak

Hopefully the eventual buyer will be aware of actual MSRP. A non-WIS could buy it while assuming that $20k is MSRP, only to get a nasty shock down the road when he realizes it's a $12k watch

The whole thing is rediculous.

I just don't understand Rolex's stance with limiting the watches so aggressively.

If Rolex produced enough watches at launch to meet demand then they would gain 100% of the profit from all of the people who have been forced to go and buy one at £16k+. Because of this Rolex have made 0% profit from these customers choosing to buy elsewhere.
Not to mention of course all of those buyers who aren't prepared to wait and just buy a different brand instead.

Not sure I follow this. The AD bought the piece from Rolex, and Rolex has made its profit. Rolex doesn't make additional profit if that watch sells to an end consumer at 16K.

It think it was in 2002 that I visited Philippe Dufour at his atelier in Le Solliat. Then, the Simplicity was going $30,000. I thought it was too much for such basic watch. A couple of weeks ago I read that a Simplicity went for some $250,000 at auction. Go figure.

Exactly!

If there was enough supply Rolex would have sold 2 watches in this scenario.

Rolex could easily stop these watches selling for £16k by supplying both the original AD purchaser and the guy buying it From them at a hugely marked up rate.
