Can I pull this off?

Ok, here we go, Ruud Van Indecisive strikes again. I was passing the OP boutique and it was rude not to call in for a mooch. I guess I want to be sure before pulling the trigger on my final PAM. My man pulled out a couple of divers and my eye was really caught by the 389 and 615. The added bonus of these references is the ceramic bezel; personally, I would avoid the new 692 on the basis of a non-ceramic bezel.

I like the quirkiness of the Flyback but it bothers me not having a date. In comes the 389, which has a date. I would love either of them and both are very different to what I already have. The 389 is about S$8,000 cheaper (GB£4,500, US$5,600), which is a factor but no deal breaker. What puts me off the 615 is the significant extra service cost and the possibility of the chrono hands becoming misaligned over time.

Anyhoo, what you guys think? Firstly, can I pull off a 47mm diver and which one looks the business?

389 !!!!!!! I love that piece because of the ceramic bezel. Buy smart of course. Prices have come way down. I think it looks great.

To add... I don't know how you roll (AD v Grey) but in US retail was around 11k and grey mkt around 8k BNIB. In the current market I would never pay full on retail. If you flip it you will take a beating. I have had my eyes on the 389 since day one. Great looking PAM. And it fits you perfectly.

I think the 389 is the one. Looks good on your wrist and the 47 mm diver, while large, is one of the few watches that size or larger that is wearable for me. Significant discounts can be had at AD's. As you know, buying right is half of the game.

You seem to have too many doubts for the 615. Why bother? Plus, you have a "complicated" PAM (689) and a non-traditional dial PAM (359), so the 389 will give you the missing link of the classic hash marks.

The new 1389 will get you the touch of blue of the 615, if you've given any thought to that one.

I'm not pulling the trigger until end of July so plenty of time, but I do want to get it right. Whilst Ma Van D liked the 317, she preferred the 389 and 615 but expressed no preference. Mrs Van D chose the 389 before she learned of the prices.

Mrs Van D also went off the 317 in the flesh; she does like it but thinks it's not different enough from what I have already. She's of the view that Submersible is the perfect fit because it has the crown guard that I love and is nothing like my 359 and 689. It also has the charcoal grey dial and ceramic bezel, which is different from my other two. Would you believe she also noticed it doesn't have a sandwich dial!

I prefer the boutique route to grey or lightly used. They've been so good to me over the past year and I want to remain loyal. Sure, I won't get as big a discount there but the service is beyond anything I've had elsewhere, ever. It'll cost me financially, I know, but I'm ok with that. I'm buying to love and to wear, not to flip.

Cru, I'm not sure about the 1389, mate. I'll need to see it first but it's certainly worth thinking about. If they don't change the dial script, like they did with the 1312 and 1359 then it could be a possibility. Surprisingly, I can't find any pics of the 1389 on line

Either way, an uncomplicated Submersible with a ceramic bezel seems to be in the lead at the moment. In fact, the 389 would be my go to watch in a zombie apocalypse

Due to price, simplicity and overall appearance. The flyback chronograph on a diving watch isn't something i think work. Does it work under water? I know the daytonas cant be pressed under water unless you want to flood the watch. Lastly, i really cant buy watches without a date. I use the date on my watch multiple times a day.

With you all the way, Brandon I wondered what was the point of a chrono on a dive watch. A GMT complication I can understand (and one I would go for if there was one with a ceramic bezel) but not a chrono. I did ask the question in the boutique and the chrono cannot be operated under water so it seems a little pointless unless it's dual purpose piece whereby you go diving in the morning and head off to a racetrack in the afternoon.

I very much prefer a date too; I do struggle a little when it's my Daytona's turn in the rotation.
