Thoughts on Hadron Collider?
Saw that it began operations today. Some think we are "playing God" which may have negative implications.

Nope, just learning how our universe works!
I can't believe the number of death threats the scientists are getting. Sad.

There's not one big enough for you Earl.
Seriously, when they first exploded the atom bomb, no one was sure what would happen. Maybe a chain reaction would be set up that would destroy the world. Now scientists have a much better idea as to what will happen, there's too much hype about it.

I would be interested to know how much $$$ they have spent on this experiment so far.
It is the worlds largest machine. I think they "know things" that they have not let out of the bag. Pretty serious investment just to help understand the Universe's creation.

Smashing. Good to see science is valued in other parts of the world.

If the universe is enveloped by a black hole, will it magnetize my Submariner?

I heard that when activated, it creates a sort of time shift, jumping everything back 13 seconds. Just enough to correct a single mistake.

Don't you all realise that we actually all died in the year 2000 as predicted by the great prophesiers and this whole "life" thing is just the echo of our combined conciousness swirling in the void.
Another theory is that the Hadron Collider's real use is to etch the Ceramic Bezels for Rolex.

Hmmm, maybe the Hadron Collider can be used to knock some sense into my ex's thick skull.

The opening test is just injecting one beam into the ring. They're yet to start colliding particles and that's the experiment to create a black hole. We still have another 2 months

I watched/listened to the webcast live on my computer at work. Not much to see but I could listen and understand just fine.
They started with one beam completely around the 27 km ring (clockwise) then another counter-clockwise. When the second one reached 2 little blips of light appeared on a screen. The scientists and engineers sure seemed excited.

This thing cost billions of dollars with the Lion's Share covered by the good old USA as usual.
We have difficulty feeding our own hungry people and getting them jobs. Seems like our priorities are a little skewed lately. We lost the sense of the fact that one life is precious. Terry Newton

So we take the homeless people, put them in the Hadron Collider, and feed them to the hungry? Without sounding political, the government gave me a free education to 12th grade, allowed me to join the military for more training in exchange for my service, then paid for my college in trade for six more years of service. The government has a tough time helping those who do not wish to help themselves. There are lots of rehabilitative programs out there. You cannot force a person to make wise choices.
