Black Bay is Tudor's Speedy!!
Everyone is aware how Omega milked the Speedmaster model over the years by creating every variation of the speedmaster - Speedmaster Hesalite, Sapphire Sandwich, Hesalite/Sapphire combo, Dark side of the moo(again variations in them such as Black, Sedna), White side of the moon, Grey side of the moon, Mark II(model which didn't go to moon), Apollo missions Limited Editions, FOIS, Snoopy, Speedy Tuesday edition... etc etc.
Looks like Tudor is following the same following the success of Black Bay. - Black Bay Red, Black Bay Blue, Black Bay Noir, Black Bay 36, Black Bay Bronze, Black Bay Chronograph, Black Bay Date(steel bezel)..another Tudor 369 Black Bay, etc. I just hope Tudor doesn't' become 1-hit watch brand like many other watch brands. They need to do something to elevate other models in their brand than creating multiple versions of the one which is selling. I thought Tudor(Rolex) has much more brains than Omega and learn from its mistakes. Guess I'm wrong. |

Point well brought out.
Would we be so blasé if they called it with a different name and ditched the snowflake hand? |

The bezel in the pic looks really awful. It makes the whole watch look cheap.

Well the various Speedmasters are variations on a chronograph theme at least. The BB is a dive watch, field watch and now chronograph. Next up: GMT?

I think the analogy to Omega holds up even better if one shifts the focus to the Seamaster line and to a lesser extent to the brand at large. The differences between Seamaster wristwatches through years are much more severe than between the various Black Bays. Tudor is certainly heading in that direction, though.

Looks just like the co-axial.

Things are relative. Didn't care to much about the Speedmasters - but they sure look pretty now - compared to the Tudor havoc.

Good to know that I am not the only one didnot like BBC. As pointed out it looks like a copy of a speedmaster and I really did not like the steel bezel. Lets see what else they got.

Yep..and the street price of these Omega speedy are around $5K and I want to see how in the world a normal person prefers Tudor Chrono over Omega Chrono unless he's WIS or Tudor fanatic. Tudor simply doesn't hold the value at over $5K in chrono area and can't beat Omegas at least.

One of the main reasons I don't have one is that I dislike modular chronos. |

I love (my) Tudor, but this looks like a Daytona, a Co-Axial Speedy and a Diver had a bad accident. :(

I like the lack of crown-guards, the dial and date, but the bezel isn't great and the snowflake hand blocks most of the subdial!

In all seriousness, this is the type of design by committee that should never leave the board room. It's a bit like the Fiat 500. Like the original BB, the new 500 was a hardly foreseen (at least to the extent it turned out to be) amazing windfall success for Fiat. And then it was watered down by such ill-advised releases as the 500L or XL which were not even successful as the cheap rentalcars they turned out to be. Why can't companies be respectful of their work when they accidentally release something great - just beyond me |

Looks like a Daytona and speedy had sex and this is their bastard child.

This is what makes me think they won't put any red text on the possible new Sea Dweller because Tudor are sticking it on a lot of their new watch models in a hark back to vintage.

Only in a Rolex forum would people complain that a watch has 10 different options to buy from. The number of threads of photoshopped alternatives people would like, people saying "I really wish the new Pepsi GMTII was in steel, not just white gold, etc". You'd think people would applaud Tudor for offering a few colour ways in 3 sizes. I mean, what is it, 2 options in 36mm, 5 in 41mm and 1 in 43mm? Hardly a cavalcade. Now they're offering a Chrono option in what looks like 1 colour. Unbelievable, the cheek of it!
It's not the prettiest watch, but in the video on ABTW it looks decent. I like the snowflake, but the detailing looks a little unrefined, and I don't like the font on the tachy. However, it is a third of the price of the Daytona. https://youtu.be/BoLtLR6BcG4 |

I think it looks great in the video except I totally agree about the snowflake hand...looks out of place and makes no sense as you can't use the chrono certain times of day!

IMHO I don't think it's fair to compare Tudor releases with Speedmaster (at least Speedy has decent designs) but I see similarities between the rise of Tudor and Panerai. No offense to the PAMS folks, I was an owner of a couple of PAMs too. First they talk about heritage and got people to jump in and then they milk it to death with different sizes, PVD, Bronze, add on a date, in-house movement, text on dial, chrono etc.
And i believe this won't be the end of things to come for the BB. Makes the regular 42mm BBs look like a work of a genius. Just saying. |
