So why is WG and RG more expensive than YG? What are the best selling PM watches? YG, RG, WG?

Yes, platinum and palladium used in the metal mix.

I would say yg is the best seller based on it being the normal color of gold.

Rose Gold is very attractive.

126331 dj41 in rg is so pretty.
DD in rg is so hot, too.

Yeah? What's a steel watch gonna do because its steel? Tell time better? Nope. It doesn't add a tool feature... lol

Rose Gold is best gold. And it is indeed the metal composition including plat and palladium.

I am not sure that WG and RG sell higher than YG. In fact WG is cheaper than RG. Take, for example, the Daytona 116509 (WG) vs 116505 (RG). Both full gold on bracelet, same bezel, retails the same; but pre-owned RG sells at a premium of a least a few thousand dollars compared to WG. It is my impression that YG is somewhere in the middle price-wise, but closer to RG than WG.

In terms of preference, I think yellow gold has a warmth which is unparalleled and unmatched by white or rose. But it is the least tough of the three. Not that you are going to use a full gold watch as a tool...ever; just saying!

Yes, Rolex do a great, and I dare say 'the best' rose gold, as they make it themselves and it is not simply a finishing treatment/plating but a full rose coloured metal, and just the right shade....

RG and YG are the best. YG feel great but look too much like SS. To me personally it just doesnt feel special.

Platinum just feels different because of the heft.

They are all 75% gold, it comes down to what is in the other 25% which causes the price difference.

the "other" 25% in RG and WG are more expensive than the other 25% of the YG mixture. Rolex doesn't disclose their formulation, but i would assume RG uses copper and platinum, The WG uses silver and palladium and the YG uses mostly copper as the added material. But they are all 75% pure gold which is yellow.

The only clue Rolex themselves give to what proportions are used is this: "operating its own exclusive foundry, Rolex has the unrivalled ability to cast the highest quality 18 ct gold alloys. According to the proportion of silver, copper, platinum or palladium added, different types of 18 ct gold are obtained: yellow, pink or white."

You could extrapolate and deduce the amount of platinum used in the metal mix based on the price differentials of the RG and YG versions of the same model such as the DD40 and the spot price of platinum... or you could just go on at your frustrated and sympathetic AD about the silly price difference. I know how I waste my time

YG. Personally I don't wear my watch to be "under or otherwise" anyone's radar. I've seen Michael Kors watches that are far more "gaudy" than 99% our Rolexes. To be perfectly honest I was admiring one in church yesterday...... imitation RG Michael Kors probably 44mm on a girl..... One day, maybe she'll feel the actual difference in true 18kt ....

Per the OP's original Q, I would think YG is more popular than the other two types.
