Moon watch question (for Padi)

Padi,

I am going diving again next week with my old friend from the space program. Should I bring my 1966 Speedy and get him to confirm that he wore this watch on both his missions? That's what he told me last year in Belize. He was holding my '65 Speedy at the time, and he said his watch had crown guards. Maybe I will bring both and ask him to compare the two.

I still think Dave both 105.012-66 and a 145.012-66 speedy travelled to the moon that day.But still go along that the 105.012-66 was probably the first one worn on the lunar surface. All the facts come to the conclusion that it was a Cal 321 on the moon first, whether it be a 105.012-66 or a 145.012-66 now thats the $64000 question. That is of course they got to the moon in the first place, and your friend should know.

Padi,

I have been searching for a 145.012-66 for almost a year now, and I have not been able to find one. I see lots and lots of 1967s, but none from 1966. Did this model exist in the fall of 1966? That could provide the answer to the $64,000 question.

I could ask my friend to sign the inside of my caseback, but I doubt he will do it. He doesn't like to sign things, because he gets asked to 500 times a day, every day, every week of every year. It must get tiring. The only thing I have ever asked him to sign was my dive log after we buddied up on a dive of the Blue Hole off Andros Island in the Bahamas. He did it, but in a way that made me realize I probably should not have asked. I try to make it a point not to ask for autographs from anybody. I broke my own rule this time, and probably should not have. We have been on a lot of other dive trips since then and I have not asked him again.

These two references (ST 105.003 and ST 105.012) were the first models chosen by NASA from 1965 for its astronauts. And the 105.012 first appeared with Professional on dial from 1966 with the 1506 flat link bracelet. Then they brought out in 1966 145.003 a new ref for the former 105.003 with the 501 bracelet.Soon after the 14.012 with the 1506 bracelet this watch changed again in 1968 to the 145.022 which had the new cal 861 So one thing is for certain IMO if they did go to the moon it was a cal 321.Wish I had a guy a famous as that to sign my diving log,you are a lucky guy.

Padi,

Are you sure about the introduction of the 145.012 in 1966? I have seen this reference too, but I don't know exactly where. Regardless, it was definitely a c.321 on the Moon.

On another note, can you count the astronauts in this photo from my trip to Palau? (Don't name them, because I don't need this photo showing up on Google!)

That's a woman. In fact, an elderly woman who learned to dive at age 65 and has now completed more than 1,000 dives.

Here's a hint: the astronauts are next to each other.

Well all my books state the 145.012 was introduced late 66 its a debate that has gone on for years. But with no 100% verified answer,my own opinion is both models were on that moon trip.Great picture by the way,the guy in the blue wet suit showing great buoyancy control.

Good guess. How many other astronauts are there in the photo?

I returned from my trip last night. I brought the '66 Speedy with me, but we did not get a chance to talk about it. There were too many other things to do (like go diving).
