New Daytonas Basel 2017
I like the Daytonas shown at Baselworld this year.
What are your opinions on it being an only watch? While it's often advised to have one SS watch, I think the ceramic bezel and the fact it is on a strap will help make this more of a beater. Plus losing the leather strap in favour of rubber is more suitable in the water so removes the need to have another watch for water sports. Im interested in knowing your thoughts.. Also experiences if anyone has used the RG YM as a daily beater..as it seems the closest thing in the current lineup. |

I think they are lookers.....but only watch/daily? I don't think so.....especially when you talk about water sports......gold actually is far softer than stainless I wouldn't wear one day to day (and I don't, I wear my gold watch on chill occasions like my vintages).....I have other stainless pieces that take the pounding day to day.

My
No rubber strapped watch can serve as a "one and only". Leather has its drawbacks except when it comes to office/evening/suits. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I love the new Daytona releases...that being said, I don't think I could wear a rubber strap as a daily.

Thank you for the responses. What makes the rubber strap bad for a daily? Just too casual or is there a practical reason?
@ Alpino, but they released a few variations of it and I like them all. |

I will probably trade in a SS Rolex or even my WG Daytona on leather for one of the new Daytonas on rubber. Ideally the white gold but would consider the yellow gold pending viewing it in person.
I'll keep it as my sports watch and maybe use for the dresses down look. I think they look great the new ceramic Daytonas, already on the list for it. |

I like the new YG and WG Daytona. Already on the list for both. As far as rubber strap goes, I love it. I have BLNR, HULK and AP diver as my daily, all of them are on rubber straps. So comfortable.

The WG Panda will probably become my beater PM watch, no worries to wear that on a daily, and much better than a sweaty leather strap. Only thing is in the UK these will not be sold at any discount for quite a while, could be very frustrating.

My thoughts, there is more than one style which was introduced hence the plural form of the noun is appropriate. Also since only one thought was represented the line should have read, "My thought..."

If you haven't had an oyster flex bracelet, you shouldn't knock it as a daily wearer.

any rolex can be an only watch if the buyer wants it to be. but, that's against forum rules. so, ya -- there's that little problem.

I picked this up second hand on alligator when the new watches were released. I immediately orders a RubberC. Have not had it off in three weeks.
I have several Rolex on bracelets. But find the rubber super comfortable. I plan to wear this watch every day for a year. With rubber I will swim and do everything else life throws my way. |

The Oysterflex straps on the new ceramic PM Daytonas turned me completely off to contemplating a purchase. It's unfortunate that an Oyster bracelet was not presented as an option.

I am of the humble opinion that a one and only watch should take a couple factors into account. If it's truly your only watch it should be versatile. With that in mind, it should have a black (maybe white) dial and should be a on bracelet. Leather, rubber, etc are all fine but they aren't as versatile and they wear easier and will need to be replaced often. A Rolex on stainless steel is a tank. It will last forever and is extremely versatile. Really any sport model is fine with the above criteria in mind though I think an Explorer, Submariner, or Datejust best fits the bill.

IMHO, the white gold version would be more appropriate for daily wear. It seems more versatile for different situations. But, the rose gold is mesmerizing.

I plan to get the Oysterflex this summer for my chocolate dial RG for the exact same activities listed. OP, it doesn't have to be SS to be a daily. Oysterflex or RubberC just changed the game. |
