Hi all

Great to be here.

About to purchase my first Rolex. I've narrowed it down to 2 options. Let me know your thoughts, etc and what you'd go for. I can only get 1, but it will be between the following:

1) S/S GMTIIc Ceramic

2) Yachtmaster with Platinum Bezel S/S 166622

I used to own the Plat/SS YM and it is a beautiful watch, however, I prefer my GMT IIc.

The GMT would be my choice, it has all of Rolex's most recent upgrades...case, maxi dial & hands, bracelet, bezel & movement. Some people complain about the polished center links, but both the YM & GMT have them so its a moot point. If you do choose to go with the YM, check out some of the pre-owned pieces, they are ranging around 3K below MSRP. Good luck!

I also faced the same dilemna and opted for the GMT IIc because of all the new and improved features of this watch.
I love the look of the Plat YM but once you try it on and tinker with the clasp, it just seems too cheap and fragile as compared to the improved heavier clasp on the GMT IIc.

This is my logic. You buy YM then you get only YM. You buy GMT then you will get YM + extra hand for second time zone. Hope this help.

Both superb watches - tough choice!!

The GMT-II would naturally be the more practical buy.

The Platty would naturally be the more dressy buy!!

I thought the results would be a lot closer than that. Im biased towards the GMT, but the Platinum Yacht is great watch.

Tough decision as they are both great! Really try listen to which one 'talks' to you.

I prefer the clean dial of the YM but find that the plat dial lacks contrast, so I'd go for the GMTC in this case.

You really won't go wrong with either! Good luck!

If this tells you anything, I have a GMT-IIC and want a yachtmaster. I tried one on yesterday, and the only thing I didn't like was the old-school clasp--it felt too cheap.

I voted for the Platinum M , but would have voted for a TT GMTIIC for the same reasons above, plus the gap in price bet the TT GMT and the Platinum YM is in closer range. I am bias towards TT as it brings out a nice contrast on the bezel and bracelet.

For a $9000+ watch I really can't understand why they use such a cheap clasp on the Yachtmaster.
Get the GMT IIc and save yourself a few thousand dollars. You won't regret it.

If you travel a lot Id say the GMT IIC

Anything else Id say the YM, its just a GREAT watch.
Beautiful and you can wear it casual or for dress and still look
like a million bucks.

Congrats on the GMTIIc... great watch... I recently picked up a Z Platty w/ chapter ring (my 1st Rollie) which I had my eye on for some time, but also considered a SS Sub, TT Sub and GMT IIc (both SS and TT versions).
In the end I picked the Platty as it is versatile enough for everyday wear, and, for me, just the right amount of bling. :)
