You've never bought a watch from them and are invited to an event?

Think for sure they will be upset you bought elsewhere, but at least you've shown you're a serious buyer so try to work with them on your next purchase and give them an idea of what you might like

I would go and wear the watch. They got first look at the deal and lost on price. It's always been a little annoying to me that AD's will not deal. In this day and age how many times do you really have to pay MSRP if you're willing to do a little shopping. Remember the old business adage, "pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered."

I would definitely go, and make sure they saw my new purchase, I would be upfront and honest if a sales representative noticed, and say I was out to get the best deal and that their store did not give that. It's your money, get the most out of your hard earned cash!

I would go and wear my new watch. If the subject comes up then be direct but polite and tell them that you purchased it at another AD after they would not deal with you. I would not say which AD as it is not any business of the AD who would not deal. This sets you up as a legitimate buyer not just a tire kicker. They are local and you want to be able to go see other items at will and wear your watch. This is business not personal. Go, have fun and tell the AD that next time you buy that you hope it will be from them. But, that is up to them.

First I'd have them size it for you

No shame in going, honesty is the best policy. Balls in their court for the next purchase.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

I think I will go because it just sounds fun and I'm hoping they might have an SD43 available to check out in person.

Also, this isn't an invite only event, it's posted on their FB page. Rolex is their only high end brand, the other stuff is Hamilton, Shinola, etc....so it's not really an exclusive thing.

And I'll wear the watch, going without wearing it and making it seem like i could still be a buyer for this watch from them would seem dishonest. And I will tell them why I got it elsewhere if asked, but I won't tell them where. Thankfully I'm within a couple hour drive of many ADs (this one is only one closer than an hour though) so they'd have no way of knowing which one gave me the deal. And I'll just let them know that when I get a good deal from someone I like to practice discretion on their behalf.

In my opinion you are overthinking this stuff.

Just go and enjoy the event and don't worry about all this.

Enjoy the event and your new Sub

Glad you decided to go to the event. Hope they have something you might consider buying. Maybe they'll work a bit more on their price with you next time.

Why not go?
Why not wear the watch?
Why not engage with the sales person?

You did go to them first...the deal didn't work...Let the sales person know...be candid.

There is always the next watch...or you never know...maybe that sales person ends up working at another AD or watch shop down the line.

Don't overthink this, if you want to go then go. And if you want to wear your watch, wear it. This is a business and they failed to make a sale to you. If it comes up, there's no reason to not give them honest feedback. There's no reason to feel awkward. If enough people are honest with them, maybe they will be more willing to be competitive in the future. Enjoy!

I would want the salesman to see my watch purchase and that he missed out on the sale due to inflexibility.

Firstly invites to this sort of things don't happen often so I wouldn't miss out, as for the watch I wouldn't wear it don't burn your bridges you never know when you may need them!
My local AD has terrible sales people so I have never bought from them but you never know when the resident watchmaker may come in handy.

Go to the event..eat all their food..but leave the watch home..
Because if you wear the watch..they might jack you up in back...lol..
But all kidding aside..as a business owner..the exact wrong thing for a customer to do is...eat all my food and wineo..and then have the gall to flaunt another dealers merchandise right in my face...trust me..that will definitely get you on their sheeeit list..faster than you can bat an eye..
And if and when you actually need them for something..they will remember...(we never forget...never! ) and will pay you back in full..any way they can...usually in the form of..well...

In theory I agree on going and not worrying about it but I have similar issues at my AD. I looked at an Explorer there several times ended up buying pre-owned. I generally wear one of my others when I visit them.

Nah...that ship has sailed. You don't need free "event" food and they are never that fun to begin with.

It would be a pass for me.

Just to follow up, I went and had a good time. Nothing great watch wise but just fun to chat with some like minded people and saw a few cool cars and sampled some decent whiskies.

I did wear my watch, it was noticed, and it went over just fine. I had a little aside with the manager and she understood and was interested in future business next time I'm shopping for one.

Glad I went!
