Where do Nato Straps Get their Name?

Nothing to do with NATO, NTO was part of the military requisite order form for that style strap and eventually nato became the adopted term.

From what I understand they weren't even called NATO straps originally. They were the "G10".

interestingly, my brother saw service and was issued a quartz G10 so I was always of the understanding that the term 'G10' is generally used to describe issue watches, including Marathon G10, CWC G10, however a quick google threw up.........

"The term G10 and its origin is quite unusual because in the UK military for soldiers to get their hands on one, they had to fill out a form called a G1098, or G10 for short hence the reason the watches are always now referred to as G10’s"

As for the Nato strap, I've always known them to be called this, cheers "H"
