Invalidated insurance cover
Hi ... I am a newbie ... So please be gentle! I have a Oyster Perpetual day date, and swooped the removable bezel from the Rolex original to a compatable diamond bezel, which I purchased from the same retailer as my watch. Now 15 years later, Rolex servicing are refusing to repair damage to the bracelet as my watch has been "modified" .... It's a screw off bezel, which is designed to allow you to accessorise your watch... I can't believe that this is correct .... Has any one else experienced this, or have any suggestions to help, or can you advise me how to complain directly to Rolex. Thanks for any advice.

Old news.
Return your watch back to factory spec before sending to R Service Centre. |

OP: Rolex can refuse to work on a watch which has changed from factory spec, there are some exceptions to this. Did the supplying shop give you the original bezel with the sale or did you just purchase the watch with the diamond bezel? If not due to the time span highly doubt you'll have any recourse with the so your best option is to take the watch to an independent who will work on the watch while ignoring the bezel (I can PM you a couple in the UK) or have the bezel removed and send the watch into Rolex with the bezel missing they will then fix the issue plus fit a new bezel oh and I'd imagine require a full service to be carried out so all in an expensive venture. |

Or find a reputable independent who will do the service for you.

Thanks for the reply.... Unfortunately it was about 15 years ago that I swapped the bezels, and despite hours of searching, I am struggling to locate the original bezel ... We have asked the insurance broker to get a quote for a replacement Rolex bezel, but Rolex are seeming unwilling to quote. Also, the damage that the watch has been sent in for, is all bracelet related, so Rolex could just unscrew the diamond bezel, complete the work and replace the bezel .... I am really surprised by the unhelpful response we are getting from Rolex .... Expected much better customer service .....

Thanks for your response ... We originally purchased with a plain Rolex bezel, then swopped onto the diamond bezel 2 years later ... Unfortunately we send the watch and diamond bezel back together through our insurers, wish we had just removed he bezel now ;-) Our insurers have suggested that we may need to go down the independent repairers route, so would really appreciate anyone you can recommend .... Thank you ... We are Midlands based.

Send the watch in with the bezel missing or use a decent independent. Sorry to hear you are having problems but hopefully you'll get it resolved. Good luck

Thanks for the response ... Unfortunately we have already sent the watch back with the diamond bezel, and Rolex are just refusing to touch it ;-( I think we will have to have it returned and then try an independent.

Rolex have their own rules, many are a pain and expensive, but they aren't a near monopoly for nothing.

Not to be a pedant here but you're talking about warranty, not insurance.

I think he is talking about both. It is a little confusing but I think he sent it to his insurance for a damage claim. The insurance then sent it to a RSC and were told they won't work on it.

Isn't this just a repair order given the watch is 15 years old. No warranty or insurance is involved from Rolex's standpoint. The OP may have his own jewelry insurance which will cover the loss but since Rolex will not preform the work his carrier cannot pay for the repairs. I assume if he has insurance it would pay for a qualified independent to do the work. Downside is only Rolex can repair their bracelets to obtain the best result possible.

You are right, sorry I didn't make it clearer in my post, although I though invalidated insurance cover subject line would explained that. I damaged the bracelet only, contacted my insurance broker, told them the bezel was not a Rolex original, but that I was struggling to find the original bezel, safely stored somewhere 15 years ago .... The insurers advised it was preferable to return it with the bezel, and now Rolex won't touch it ....
