Not much I can add that others haven't already said. The 7750 is a real proven workhorse movement, and the watch is just super cool.

I'm also thinking about getting one. I went to the boutique to try the Mark XVIII but came away more impressed with the Pilot Chrono.

Some misinformation on this thread. The three date model is in-house movement and also they have issues, mine stopped working out of the blue, the chrono would not start and since it is in house most watchmakers wouldn't mess with it. It also has high depreciation and is hard to resell. Frankly I'm glad I finally got rid of it and saved up and got an AP. Great looking watch and I got many compliments on it, "coolest" watch I owned, especially the all black look paired with a leather or motorcycle jacket. Just make sure you really want it and are aware of the IWC chrono issues. I had the top gun ceramic three date.

er, nope. The IWC 79320 is IWC's "modified" 7750.

Like all IWC's ETA sourced movements, it will either have been delivered at their top line ebauche to IWC, where it would be stripped and rebuilt using IWC's own components, or been built by ETA to IWC's specs and been delivered as a finished movement. Which path it took depends on date of manufacture.

@myporsche; It was unfortunate you got a bad one. That is a rarity. As they come with 2 year warrantees, did you not send it back for service ?

And to the OP if you buy used, buy from a trusted seller and buy a full set. There are truly indistingishable fakes out there, including all the bracelet's mechanisms. No box AND papers, dont touch it !

Interesting, I guess you know more than IWC and a master watchmaker who opened it up and told me to send it to IWC because it is an in-house movement.

I guess I know just enough to point out that the snippet above is referencing a completely different model, the 2 register Top Gun.
The OP is talking about the 3777. He was good enough to include a picture. You can google that yourself...y'know, avoid mis-information and all that.....

my IWC 7750 based Chronos...so far, so good.....

...also it is not a rarity, I read about tons of people having the same problem as my chrono along with other issues. It is a great watch, looks amazing, got more compliments than anything else, all black look with ceramic is amazing, but they are overpriced, take a hit on resale, and have (or maybe had?) some quality issues. Doesn't mean I wouldn't buy one if I was in the market like the OP, I would just be careful and shop aggressively.

That Spitfire is very lovely, one of the nicest Pilots IWC has put out...
When they updated the 3890 Top Gun to the 39361 movement with combined hour/minute totalizer, they should have done the same for this Spitfire, rather than drop it

Parse you your message ;why ? It seems pretty clear you are suggesting to the OP that the 7750 is a flawed movement:
oks like a 7750. optimally stop and reset the chrono around 10 s before or after "12", it may not always engage after quick start stop reset start stop successions. Make sure you don't set date between 8pm and 3 am.
When you say “optimally” it suggests there are consequences for using it suboptimally. Ie you’ll bugger it. Given the gloomy tone of your post, did you think it would be read any other way ?
Google for problem stories? You might want to read through many of those threads to see what the actual issues were, and sense the general opinion of the 7750, before linking it...

Even if there’re 1000 threads on the iterwebs, there are millions of 7750’s chugging cheerfully away out there, doubtless you’ll find one that somehow choked a family pet, or took out an eye, but statistically, your risk of getting a shitty one is very, very low, probably no worse than the mean fault rate for any watch.

And if it does break, IWC can fix it if in warranty, most half decent watchmakers can fix it with available and reasonably priced ETA parts if it’s not.

I have it in a Little Prince edition and it is a great all around watch. I also bought IWC NATO strap as a nice change. Santoni straps are great, go on their website to see the difference. Watch wears on the larger size, but it is comfortable. Recommend to purchase buckle to keep the leather strap running for a longer time.
