Tonight in NYC - BIG CROWN in the BIG APPLE
Sadly, I can't attend, let alone bid on anything, but if I could, relative values aside, this would be the one I'd most love to leave the Big Apple with!
It's just so... sexy. And cool. Everything about it. I know all of the attention is understandably on PN's PN, but this one is my hero. https://www.phillips.com/detail/ROLEX/NY080117/33 Lot. 33 Ref. 6200 "An extremely rare, important, and early stainless steel wristwatch with black glossy Explorer dial, gilt hands, presentation box, and hangtags." 1954 Case, dial, and movement signed 37mm diameter Estimate $250,000 - 500,000 CHF244,000-487,000 €213,000-426,000 HK$1,950,000-3,900,000 Pics are screen-shots, plus details, from Phillips' website. It's going to be an epic night. Icons everywhere. How about you - what would you choose?

The gilt hands with the long hour hand and big ball sweep second hand just look amazing over that high gloss dial!! I would expect this to go for at least the high end of the estimate if not more. Could we see 7 figures, I suppose anything is possible with these if someone wants it bad enough.

Karl, I have to head up to midtown later for dinner, and I could pop into Phillips and pick that up for you if you'd like.
Pay me back later. |

I agree, wish I was there and wish I could bid on that one! I hate all the snapchats and texts I'm getting from friends there lol

Dude, no worries. In fact, why don't we just let this one be my treat. And the next time I'm in Switzerland, you can buy me a beer and some Raclette.

As simple as it is, this is mine. I just cant get over the tropic dial. I am actually posting watch of the month tomorrow which kind of goes over my first love.

I saw the 6200 at a Phillips preview here in Seattle. As cool as the Paul Newman PN was, the 6200 was a true showstopper. Absolutely stunning in person. Even in a not terribly well lit corner of a Ferrari showroom, the 6200 glowed and seemed to be alive. An amazing watch.
The 1680 tropical dial was also very nice, but like comparing one of the Ferrari's to my Audi, they were in different leagues. |

The Super Bowl of watch collecting. What a great event. I enjoyed it with wine and cheese. I wonder what’s going on in the modern forum?

Aside from the PN, I have to go with you there Vincent that 6200 was amazing. I actually wore it at the viewing (and a $15.5m one). Its such an important reference, one that started so much... The shot of the dial removed with all that glorious cumulus radioactivity kinda captures it and the insert w/o minute markers, well...
The milsub with its original NATO was in amazing shape... Can anyone confirm it was switched for a fake at the viewing? |

Anyone think the 6200 selling for $470,000 was lower than expected?

Switched as in somebody replaced it with a fake and stole the original? I'd think they would have pretty heavy security with 10's of millions in Watches.

Not really that yummy brown chocolate tone. Perhaps the lighting but it looks a bit dull in the auction pics as well. Only me?
The 6200 is however amazing. Just wow! |

yes the brown did not have that magic glow that some can have, but it really was overall a great example. the 6200 was ABSOLUTELY STUNNING, and WELL BOUGHT imho |

$579K all-in. I thought it may go higher, given the setting. Still a lot, though!
