Batman Hoarding

In the classifieds I have counted no less than 6 currently BNIB Batmans going for sale between $9450 and $9950. I have seen these posts bumped almost on a daily basis for the past two weeks. It seems like the market is starting to get overloaded with these watches. There is no such shortage me thinks, only at certain locations. I am wondering, what criteria does Rolex utilize to allocate these watches among the AD´s ?

There is a shortage of them, well in the UK there is. However there are plenty for sale that are preowned watches.

This is more people jumping on the band wagon and selling for a high price as opposed to there is no shortage.

Prices are going up daily. Same with the hulk.

I wouldn't call it hoarding.

It's a few watches out of tens of thousands.

Batman Hoarding

I think some people (not generalizing here) aren’t patient enough to wait for an AD to have it available and pay MSRP. I would wait 6m to 1y and wouldn’t pay over MSRP for a piece that is still in production (as in not discontinued or vintage).

It’s easy to then complain about greys and sellers asking over MSRP. It takes 2 to tango and buyers are just to blame.

Completely agree! I am being patient and checking with my local AD periodically to see whether there are any in stock or any expected for delivery.

At the current prices online it makes more sense to just BNIB from an AD. Used BLNR's are up for sale for the same price as new. Last week I put down a deposit at a local AD for my BLNR. I could save a few hundred dollars by going used or possible BNIB online but I rather get it from a local AD when it's just $100-$200 difference. This will be my first purchase from an AD and the BLNR is going to be a keeper for me. AD says they think it will be anywhere from 1-3 months as it is a special order. They said they didn't expect any new sports models until the beginning of 2018.

It was exactly 2.5 month for my BLNR from my local AD. No down payment needed as he has such a big waitlist that if within days you don’t go pick up they go on to the next on the list and they will fly.

The HULK on the other hand, is 6 month. I’m looking at April for mine!

It took approximately three weeks for my AD to get me one which I picked up last weekend. I had never gone in this store but struck a good relationship with the young salesman that took care of me on day one.

In between my wait, I did go to at least three other ADs and they all without much hestiation would say that it was going to be at least a 2-year wait.

To make it even better, not only do I now have an established relationship, but thanks to a tax free purchase and a bit of a discount ended up paying $7,500 where Gray Sellers are asking up to $10,600. I think I did good :-) .

Grays, try to justify it as supply and demand. I can see the supply on here but I dont see the demand. The same watches keep getting bumped and price increased. But I dont see the watches selling if the demand is there how come they are still holding the watches and not moving them. Call it what you want but I will call it what it is SUPPLY and GREED! They would rather sit on them until someone who does not want to wait and is willing to pay over inflated pricing to get it tomorrow. All this is going to do is slow there sales from the masses and force them into the AD and get it for MSRP or less for current production models.

Sample size of one, but I don't think the BLNR is all that difficult to source. I simply asked my nearest AD (had never done any business with them) and one was immediately offered from the safe (it was not on display). I may have just been lucky. This was 8 days ago.

My AD also called me at home and offered one to me that just came in and at a discount and I have never done business with them before and was just in there looking. I declined because timing was not right for me. And they offered to ship it out of state.

Shoot, you could buy it and flip it for a profit. Presumably. Theoretically.

You are correct. But I dont work like that. I would rather have the next person get it than me trying to take advantage of the situation. That would be no better than what were posting about and I am not going to exploit the situation.

I’m waiting for a blnr again after selling mine 2 years ago. I think yes the greys are overpricing but if you look not many are out there compared to say the hulk. Pre owned is another story.

Free market will say when people can’t get the price they are asking and more watches are there than buyers a correction will take place and these will drop. I sense that early next year. There is starting to be more available in smaller areas and this will filter through bigger cities soon.

Seems like the shortage is only common outside the US...although the BLNR will definitely be a timeless classic.

I sold mine to a local trader a few months back. Almost three years old and I got more than I paid for it.

Batman hoading ? I'm not too sure about that. My rudimentary chart suggests dealers are stashing away the Hulk in Malaysia. This is a summary of the average premium prices of the Hulk vs Batman over the last 12 mths in Msia

Well, that by definition is hoarding.

"To accumulate for preservation, future use etc." in a hidden or carefully guarded place.

Which means that these watches will sooner or later make it into the market. Said purpose is purely speculative in nature because there are rumors of discontinuation. What if they are just produced like any other watch ?

I can tell you the market right now is currently tight for the Batman catching up to the Hulk there is just no Supply in the last 12 weeks.

I see all ss models becoming more available compared to the last quarter of 2017
Demand is definitely still high but supply is starting to ease up a little which to me means one of two things
1- there won’t be issues getting the watches we want
2- it’s a little drizzling before Rolex shuts down the faucet!!

I’m looking for a BLNR myself, but I’d rather wait a bit than pay a premium for a gray market Rolex. Plus it’ll be my first time getting a watch from an AD.

They are around, with some persistence and phone calls you can get one. Two weeks ago one was in a display case, and my local AD had one available (not displayed).

Plenty around ppl. Just search the forums and make some calls.

Its not like the LV or the BLNR is a limited run piece. There are literally 1000s and 1000s out there of these.

I called around a fair amount. Found an AD that told me I’ll be 3rd on their list, and is willing to ship to me with no sales tax. Apparently they had one last week that sold. They said their list for the Daytona is like 100+ deep. The saleswoman on the phone sounded very honest, so I’m just gonna wait it out. $8950 out the door for the BLNR sounds like a deal, considering the gray market is asking for 10% over that. The dealers around DE/Philly/NJ/NY all tell me it’s a 2-3 year wait.

There was two in the case when I visited earlier this week. A BLNR and a LN in the case. Plenty of stock around these here parts.
