Speaking of "custom" how about this SS custom smurf?
http://ebay.to/2EgqO7D
It has a custom blue bezel insert. It has a custom blue dial. quote from the seller: "This watch looks like the Rolex 18k White Gold Submariner Model #116619" I believe all of the components are genuine Rolex except the dial and bezel insert on this one. This watch is not vintage, but as we all know... in the vintage market, the "dial is everything." I guess in my opinion, this isnt much different than putting an after market diamond bezel and diamond dial onto a Rolex watch. It reduces value, but it is truly a customized piece. Although I'm dubious of all the refinished dials out there. People are stripping genuine dials and re-painting and re-printing the Rolex logo. It is a crime to possess tooling and equipment for the purpose of reproduction of trademarks belonging to others, but it is a common practice that seems to be accepted by Rolex and therefore never really pursued legally. |
