Escape rooms. Anyone done it?

Yes. Missed record time by less than a minute.

Thanks Wayne, and congrats - you must be great at solving puzzles whereas I struggle with the crosswords. I've heard that some people actually travel to different states to try other rooms, thriving on the challenge.

Some buddies have been trying to get a group together and try it and it does sound like fun.

At least you had fun Carl; that's primarily the answer I'm looking for. Does being trapped and reliant on your friends (or strangers?) for escape create frustration or strengthen teamwork skills?

I'm thinking as a potential work retreat. Does an alpha emerge or is it generally a shared cooperative experience? How realistic is the immersion?

Have done a couple, here in SoCal and out in Research Triangle area.

Good team building exercise. Down side is that the passive/quiet people in a small team really stand-out so it might alienate them even more.

Quality, IMO, depends on the folks putting the room and puzzles together. It seems the younger, nerdier guys put more fun but tougher situations together. It's nice when the puzzles get increasingly complex; let's say from basic "this key goes that lock" (trial and error) to book page markings referencing morse code for use on a telegram found in a secret compartment.

Go in with no expectations and have a great time! :)

We do them often, work friends, mostly air traffic controllers, pilots, and flight attendants. We’re all good at problem solving but once in a while we get one that stumps us and we run up against the clock and it comes down to the wire.

We make an evening of it, dinner and drinks after.

I did one in London ilast summer. We made a new record for that room.....not in a good way. We made it out with 0.25 seconds to spare

I love them. I did quite a few of them with a group of friends when I was in law school. It was a great team building exercise and a great way to train myself to think outside of the box.

I developed a reputation for making bone headed mistakes, but at the same time, having the flashes of brilliance required to solve the game. The really good ones always have a real surprise ending or structure you could never have predicted walking in.
