Blocked phone numbers

To Quote lieutenant Colonel Kilgore in “Apocalypse Now”

“Don’t these people ever give up”

Just got another of those phone calls, immediate hung up and blocked the number. I have close to 200 now....

To quote TheVTCGuy: “Why can’t they just leave me alone?”

Wasn’t the do not call registry supposed to solve this?

I do not understand what they are even doing except possibly trying to get a list of live phone numbers to sell. They hang up on my answering machine, they hang up if I answer. Not sure what the scam is but since VOIP robo dialers are easy I guess that is their plan.

No since the FTC has no way to enforce it.

I have an old modem on my phone line looking at the caller ID and blocking scammers.

I end up blocking whole prefixes, countries, and any autodialer when they are too careless to change the default name, ex. V<longnumber>.

Works well to keep the place peaceful but they never get the picture and keep calling. Recording 'out of order' SIP tones to your answering greeting used to help too.

We get constant calls for, "Duct Cleaning", I usually respond in a roughshod accent that, "This is a small farm, we don't have Ducks here, only goats and chickens and they're fine..", and wait for the ensuing hilarity as they try in their heavily accented voice to explain to me, "Ducts, Not Ducks", at which point the loop restarts....

I also get the hang-up calls, yup, war dialing for active numbers...you'll get a series of calls shortly after that most likely.

I often just put the phone down without hanging up and let them keep talking. Hang up Maybe 10 minutes later

I was getting auto warranty calls. Like 3 a day. And I'd tell them that I've requested to stop being called. They never give out a company name. So annoying. And then the prerecorded calls....ugh....make them stop!

Sometimes I think the “Press 1 to be removed from our call list” just triggers something at the other end that says “Call more aggressively, there’s a real human at the other end of this number.”

This same thought goes through my head as well.

Same goes for the unsubscribe links in spam emails. I feel like I just submitted my email address to the whole world. lol

I'm getting them constantly I don't answer the phone unless it's a number I recognize very annoying and the "do not call list" is useless !

We get them in the UK, usually some rubbish about life insurance, miss-selling of payment protection, etc. My favourites are the ambulance chasers that call you about a car accident that you've had. I usually ask them which accident and tell them I've had three this month or something.

It's hilarious when I take them off their check sheet because they don't know how to respond.

That's funny when my daughter is here visiting she answers the phone and pretends she's making an order for Chinese take-out it's pretty amusing

I disconnected our landline as most of the calls we got on it were from Mumbai.
We don't get any on the Mobiles.

Burner Apps outflanked the Do Not Call lists long ago for scammers.

You could potentially block entire number ranges and just get targeted by the next scammer burning a different NPA-NXX.

On a side note, the beauty of a Series3 Apple Watch is the easy way it allows disconnects of unknown callers without a care.

I like the android feature that identifies spam callers. Still let’s you see the number but if I don’t recognize it I hang up.
