1966 Submariner 5513 - Anything look off?
Hello everyone—somewhat new to TRF but I’ve been Rolex collecting on Reddit/offline for a while. I’ve been offered this 5513 with a 1,31X,XXX serial number and no bracelet, box. papers or history.
Am I right to assume that the lack of depth rating on the dial is a red flag? And does the dial look re-lumed? The Rolex crown on the dial looks pretty wonky. This leads me to assume it's been refinished/repainted. Anything else look off? The case and movement do appear to be authentic. It does seem that everything has a consistent condition (really rough). The hands are heavily corroded, missing lume, and the bezel is nicely faded and missing the pearl. The case back was especially corroded and covered internally with what appears to be grease. The case was really banged up but appears to be unpolished. The price is well below market. Refinished dial, poorly. Pretty much trashed case back etc. Mid case corrosion city.
Movement probably needs lots of work as well. Bezel looks decent if authentic. Unless you can own for the price of a new Citizen quartz I'd pass. |

Haha yea well said all of you. I’d be tempted for that bezel alone but he’s asking US$3k.

Oy. That dial is just awful. Just a cursory look at few correct ‘66 Subs should tell you that this one has been very poorly refinished/repainted.

yeah not a great piece - the condition of the watch will warrant significant repair costs.
- caseback is also missing a part on the side. - I dunno about the bezel insert, its also got significant wear around the inner edge. This whole watch is a mess. One OT question for the guys here though - 1.3m is 1966 serial? what about a 1.6m serial? |

Good price for all of those parts. Yes the dial is bad but case, bezel and insert, Caseback, movement etc look good (meaning original), sum of all parts worth much more than $3k. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks. This is what I was trying to determine—whether the value to salvage from this is greater than $3k. But it looks like it’s probably not worth the trouble. A particularly respected (unnamed) online dealer offered just under that with the pictures and info I provided. |

I was curious if we had finally found a worthless Sub...but due to parts breakout...it's still worth $$$$$!

Of course he did, he needs to make money also. Means it’s probably worth at least 2x the offer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you have any of those trashy bezels and inserts, or movements, or cases, or Casebacks you want to throw away, please send them my way! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
