Also, bear in mind that like all tech gadgets, they have a very short life span before becoming outdated and getting replaced with the next generation that has the latest all singing all dancing updates in it.
Someone may quite easily be on their 2nd or 3rd AW by now which is naturally going to increase sales expenentially.
Obviously most people only buy a luxury Swiss time piece once...

I don‘t believe, that we are the last generation. I think, the whole status thing (or call it appreciation for design, history, craftsmanship, ...) will keep carrying mechanical watches far. Smart watches with their inherently limited life spans just don‘t offer that. Yes, you can technically sport a 20 year old Apple Watch in a few yours, but chances are, it will be useless (Emulators?). The number of enthusiasts will remain low, but people still ride horses for all their sentimental reasons.

I’ve had mine for almost three years, but I must admit, I had to replace it once. Cost $199. I didn’t realize how fragile it was. I dropped the d@mn thing in a tile floor.

The best things about an Apple Watch are 180º from the best things about a Rolex - but I appreciate both.

I am temporarily Swiss watchless- but when I had multiple Rolex/Omega’s I wore both. And will when I get some replacement Swiss Made back in the stable.

The Apple Watch of the 21st Century isn’t in the same threat category towards the Swiss Watch market as the Quartz Movements posed in the 20th Century. Consider this - Rolex tried a “me too” quartz movement strategy that failed in the short term. But they are leaving smart wearables alone for now.

Tired of this comparison. Apple watch isn't a watch. It's an iPhone with a strap on it. The other thing that bugs me about it is people I know who got one keep showing it to me like I care. They know I work on watches. They don't talk about any other watch they like or have. But, when they buy that Apple watch, they sure do want to start "talking watches." Like they're trying to get validation from me? Funny thing is, I know more about watches(obviously, since I repair them) and tech stuff. I've built my own computers, repaired and troubleshoot both Windows and APPLE machine despite not owning any apple products. /rant
