King Midas - what's the deal?
Does anyone know of a compilation of key info on King Midas models over the years of production? e.g. reference numbers, movement info and other differences across the versions produced? In particular in the early years and through the 70's, when dials were signed with Rolex and MIDAS (in greek letters) as opposed to Rolex and Cellini.
I've found examples that seem to indicate different reference numbers were used even in very similar versions - perhaps as the movement varied - and then of course there are different sizes and case designs as well. I'm trying to piece together a timeline of the reference numbers by model phases and production years if possible, for the original design with pentagonal case, gold bar links in bracelet, square dial, etc. In particular the white gold examples which seem even more rare, but yellow gold too. Seems like a dearth of info on this model generally -- perhaps may be one of the lesser known/tracked references in history of the brand, but crazy cool. Elvis had one, appeared in Man with the Golden Gun... a Genta design? |

The first and only real King Midas is the 9630 with the 650 movement.
FYI, the watch did NOT appear in the man with the golden gun. Read about it here: http://www.rolexmagazine.com/2008/07...x-king_26.html |
