10% off or Retail

If you had the opportunity to get a 10% discount on a subc date available in stock or a hulk with no discount and have to wait until it becomes available which one would you go with ?

It would depend on which one I wanted more and what else was in my collection.

If you got the sub now, would you feel like it was "settling?"

i would get the watch i wanted most, regardless of the deal. Especially so because we are not talking massive discounts.

Agree that you must get the watch you really want the most regardless of the deal.
If you really want the SubC then it's a great deal.
However, if your hearts set on a Hulk then the SubC will always feel like a compromise and you may never really be happy with it.
Worse, you may end up even resenting it which would be a shame.

I wouldn't buy a watch based on a 10 percent discount. I would buy the watch I wanted most and if I was fortunate enough that it was the one that was being discounted, call myself lucky.

X2. Forget money. You know you want a LVc after you have seen it. It’s one of those looks that will stir deep inside you that price of entry is just a minor detai in the journey of ownership. Of all the Rolex models, the old expression “if I have to explain, you wouldn’t understand” applies best to the LVc.

I'm thinking about it. And I would probably go that route for my 35th bday next march. Or something else lol

Go with the one you like better. For me, it's the SubC but it depends if you want black or green. Buy once, cry once

A Hulk is one of seven SubC Date variants. People seem to think the other one you're considering is the 116610LN. Is that a correct assumption?

As for which one to get, assuming you can afford either, get the one you like best. If you prefer the Hulk, but get one you don't like as well just because it's available now for less money, you won't be happy with your choice. Ask yourself how you'll feel after you've owned the watch for six months.

LVc. LVc will lose less value right after purchase.

True, but tbf no SS Rolex will so shouldn't really use that as an argument for or against.

Recently not, but I've seen LN models go for 10-15% less on used markets while MSRP or higher for LVc. If SS models start showing up more at ADs then I'm sure LN will go down more than LVc.

I’m trying to build a relationship with my local AD as this would be my second piece I would be getting from them. I know I could get a better deal on the next one

Are you saying for the sake of building the relationship, you'd settle for a watch you don't want? That's a foolish expenditure, in my opinion. You have already acknowledged that if you get the currently-available Sub, you will feel like you're settling, so what else is there to say? If you want to wait until your 35th birthday next year to get the Hulk, do that, but don't buy another expensive watch in the interim that is not what you really want - unless you have money to burn and don't really care how you spend it.

If I had money to blow, I would get both. I’m just saying it would be more special for my 35th next March for something more exclusive

pay retail then

Seriously though, its the long game and saving 7-8 hundred dollars getting a discount may not be worth it if you want a Daytona or something later. AD's love customers who pay retail.

IMO it doesn't matter if you buy 1 or 50 hot models from an AD. They have no more incentive to discount the 50th than they do the first as those watches are selling quickly to someone no matter what. Buying a lot does help sourcing watches though.
