My AD tells me that Rolex will be discontinuing the Submariner so now is the time to buy it. He says Rolex is a multi-level marketing company and it is being bought by Playskool, which will use it to manufacture children's toys. He then fell on the floor and, in a trace, uttered a prophecy in Babylonian about the moon being eaten by the primordial dragon.

Seems legit.

I don’t believe they change something on Sub!
If you want to dream with open eyes I like to see a rose gold Sub even with rubber strap!!

I actually think a 43mm Submariner makes sense. Hope to see it

40 or 41, tops. Omega has three divers in that size range. If Rolex upsizes the Submariner to 43, it will have none in the 40-41 range, and will lose a buttload of market share.

Perhaps, but then again, the submariner has always traditionally been as large as the Seadweller (until the DSSD was released) so who knows. One things for certain, with a Rolex never say never

That's looking at it in comparison to Rolex's own models. I'm looking at it in comparison to the competition from other brands. If Rolex no longer has a diver in the 40 - 41mm range, what are people who want a diver in that size range going to do? Suck it up and go with a bigger Rolex, or go with another brand in the size they want? For those who aren't loyal to Rolex, but who are simply looking for a watch that fits their needs, Rolex would have made themselves a whole lot less attractive. I don't see the brand allowing that to happen.

So yeah...I'm saying never (assuming they don't put out the Sub in multiple sizes).

I disagree (to a point).

The majority of people to whom Rolex market their products will buy a Rolex sub because it’s a Rolex sub. They won’t care whether it’s 40 mm or 42 mm. The numbers are the last thing they will worry about.

All they will care about is 1) it’s a Rolex 2) it’s a sub and 3) does it fit/can I pull it off - in that order. They won’t bemoan the fact that 42 mm isn’t “correct” or “traditional”. In any case 40 mm isn’t traditional either, the first subs were smaller.

When I saw the SD 43 release all I cared about was if it worked for me size wise. The actual diameter wasn’t important. How it looked on my wrist and did it fit well were the key factors.

Just a guess. If it had to be differentiated with a case redesign, it's either 41mm Sub (or GMT) following the DJ, or more likely to be 42mm following the Explorer 2. Eventually all 40mm sport watches will fall in line with the new case size to simplify manufacturing. Not 43mm as its already been noted that the SD didn't do well when it was the same as a Sub, until it increased in size.

I really think they have nailed it with the size. As mentioned above the '40mm' matters little. It wears perfectly on a lot of wrists because the lug design lends itself to stretch nicely across. I don't know...I think Rolex just know what they are doing. And of course there are other larger models in the range if needs be. If it ain't broken....?

Bring it on. Never liked the Maxicase. I just hope Rolex does what we all know is right - Bring back the correct case shape bloody well leave it alone and never severely alter the shape again. For God's sake don't make a triangle-shaped Sub.

I ended up finding a mint lightly used Sub instead and saved a lot so I went that route instead. When I bought my Explorer a couple months ago; same thing. They'll gladly take my cash and gave me a great deal on the watch also, but I had to get my brother in law to pick it up and he shipped to me.

Hi Colin.. which Province are you from, I’m in BC. Just curious...

Even if they did release a new Submariner it wouldn’t be available in SS until 2020. 2018 PM, 2019 TT, 2020 SS Date and later on the ND. I don’t see why they would change this very profitable trend that has worked so well for them.

Even the car industry does this with innovations first being released into the flagships (S-class), trickling down to the mid-level (E-class) before finally ending up in the entry level (C-class).

So all three will have you #1 on their list to get one... and deliver it (not just typical AD hot air promises).

A 43mm Sub will never happen as they have the SD for that. A 41mm Sub with thinner lugs is possible - it's actually my dream, too

I love the 116610 as is, to me it’s perfect... Would be conflicted if they updated the movement though.
