Oh well, my next watch was already going to be a Grand Seiko anyway.

I think you're being harsh but at the same time I think that this criticism is what Rolex needs. I am so unimpressed with modern Rolex that I have literally reverted my collection to only five-digit references. FYI, I have owned the Hulk (and loved it), the BLNR, and the 114060. I am willing to speak with my wallet. Problem is, most are not.

Lazy???? They have the same watches since the 60’s... BAU if you ask me.
Reminds me of an interview with Craig Ferguson and the actress says “oh you still have the same cup!” And he replies “yea! I’m not hip like the new kids with a different cup every day!” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Rolex has gone too far already. I wish they'd stop with the special editions or tribute models. Rolex doesn't need retreds to pull in cash; they should look to the future - carefully and slowly. New movement and maybe some case size offerings is plenty.
One of the reasons for Rolex's success is the conservative, classic models that have become icons. |

I think the fair concession is to say Rolex are not happy with the Coke's red they have produced or not happy with the success rate, rather than they are deliberately eschewing that option to annoy BLRO owners.

Agree. More like negligent behaviour and not deliberate. But harmful nonetheless.

Look at Intel and computer companies. They release updated chips that are a little faster than the last one periodically. They could easily jump over several steps, but what would that do? They would quickly be at the highest speeds they can get and that would be the end of that. Nobody would need a faster computer, cell phone, etc. anymore. Smart companies keep you coming back for more year after year. Rolex is a very, very smart company. |

The New WG BLRO is interesting too with the blue dial but i need to see that one in person first. If i was in the market for a pepsi i would still get the PM version.

The cold hard truth is that altho it would be utterly unforgivably scandalous to release the DD40 in SS, so many of us would trample over the PM owners to get to one!

Still think i prefer the rubber to bracelet for that one though. Maybe next year they release a bracelet version, but i still think i would get the OF.

I don't know a single company that can make real changes year after year, especially in the watch business. Rolex really aced everything last year with the Daytona and SD but it's impossible to even for them to be the best every single year. Give it another year or two and I'm sure they will be back for more buzz!

Lazy perhaps, but for all the R&D that went into making the ceramic pepsi bezel, they will now achieve economies of scale by being able to dramatically increase sales in the SS variant.

I’m not crazy with anything this year but there is a huge back catalogue of older Rolex models that are still great pieces.

Not every year can be a homerun...
But still, SS Pepsi this year, SD43 last year, DaytonaC 2 years ago... It’s not so bad. Lol

If they curried favor from the small percentage that have to have something startling every year, they would be out of business quickly.
