At 7.2 I think you are definitely in the SD43 range. To me, it works best like this:

<7" Sub
7"-8" SD43
>8" DSSD

Not to say you need to be in those number, just seems to my eyes those are the sweet spots for those models.

The new Sea Dweller is just an amazing watch. If you are comfortable with the size and weight you will absolutely love it. Good luck in you search!

Assuming your wrist is relatively flat, then I think the SD43 will be the right fit for you. My wrist is about the same size.

I picked up my SD43 this week and love it. It's a big watch and a watch that will let you know it's there. That said, it only took about an hour to get used to the size. It will not fit under my shirt cuffs - but that's fine and I knew that before I bought it.

I have owned them all and the SD43, for me, is the perfect Rolex Diver. The case size, bracelet, dial, red text and even the cyclops work for me.

No one has a crystal ball on "value retention."

But there is one fact: if you don't buy the watch that you like best (as opposed to what some think may hold it's value), your purchase will have zero value for your wearing pleasure.

Absolutely no offense intended, and maybe it’s just the angle, but to me, it looks like a mismatch.

I do like the slightly larger versions, but after years of wearing them, went back to a sub. Not too big, not too small, doesn’t get snagged, fits under cuffs.

To each his own however, but I have a 7.75” wrist, and don’t feel the need to use every available mm. My old eyes can read it just fine, even in dim light, so it’s big enough:-)

None taken. I used to have 47mm Panerais where the trick was not to strap them tight to your wrist, hence looking like you just strapped a clock on, and also clashing with the shirt cuffs, but to wear it slightly loose, so that it hovers at the end of the wrist.

Same thing with the 44mm DSSD. In fact, due to the bracelet, and probably also due to the flat profile of my wrist, it actually wears extremely comfortably.

Yes, go for whatever makes you smile. Just pointing out that even with 6.75" wrists, a DSSD is not out of the question like the Panerai Egiziano would be, lol.

I have a sub lvc, which I adore, but I borrowed a friend's SD43 for the week and fell head over heels.

On my 7.5 inch wrist it felt great and I really liked the thicker bracelet, so much so I agree now that the bracelet on the submariners needs looking at. Once I had my sub back on my wrist the bracelet just seemed out of proportion with the case - way to thin.

Don't see it as a problem though as they are very different watches and I am now looking for a SD43 to compliment my sub. Felt it was much more a weekend, short sleeved bruiser than the office daily.

The sub isn’t a small watch by any mean. The SD43 is a great watch and wear fairly comfortable partly because it is a very well balanced watch. The deep sea is very top heavy, I don’t like it and didn’t get one because of it. The new, yet to be re;eased deep sea will have a wider bracelet which should help in that regard. If this is your first Rolex, and an everyday watch, I would recommend the sub.

Very subjective and telematics to individual wrist and personality.
I’ve owned the sub/sub date/DSSD and For me:
Sub & Sub date: visually, the sub’s lugs are not right. Comfortable but couldn’t stand looking at it
SD43: much better visually but a cyclops on a Sea Dweller is wrong and a non starter plain and simple and will never consider one. Make this a Red Sub and I’m in, however.
DSSD: my daily - I have a 7.0 wrist. I don’t dress shirts in my line of work so no sleeve issues.

So I actually didn’t end up buying the SD43 during that visit. The picture is from a trip to Geneva where I was able to find one to try on. At the time I was struggling with pulling the trigger due to the price difference and the AD wasn’t going to give me what I wanted for the Sub. It took me 6 months of going back and forth before I ended up getting the SD43. Of course, when I came back to the US they were impossible to find and I ended up being one from a TS. With the conversion from francs to usd it ended up costing around the same anyways.

as an owner of a SubC, i love the SD43 bezel and 43mm size, however it was not available at the time when i purchased the SubC and i got an excellent price, so no regrets on my end

I've never understood the DS- to me it's nothing more than a novelty since no diver goes anywhere near those depths. Just seems like something someone would get to brag about; "my DS goes so much deeper than your SD!". Even the SD43's abilities are well above and beyond any diving depths. But lets be real, that doesn't even matter since no divers- especially no commercial ones- will ever wear a Rolex to dive with today. So I guess it really does just come down purely to your aesthetic preference and what sits best on your wrist. Personally SD43 gets my vote.

When i tried all 3 watches i had the following impression:

1) Sub - ok. Especially liked Bluesy;
2) Dssd - too thick and not very comfortable despite my big size of wrist.
3) SD43 - PERFECT watch :)

The Deepsea is a beast and not meant for mere mortals. You have to try it on and see if you would be comfortable wearing it. I love mine though.

I have had thick divers all my life. I like the SD43 and its on the short list. What I have found is that I now like thinner watches. Size doesn't matter as much to me. I marvel when I look at my LV and see how thin it is. I am not a diver so rating makes no difference to me. The Sub is so lightweight to me and I can't even tell I am wearing it. Looks wise the SD43 looks perfect in the pictures. I have not yet been able to try one on.

Yes, there’s Big, then BIG!. I’ve been wearing a lot more long sleeve everything the past few years, that prob has something to do with it.

Also, we talk a lot about wrist size, and neglect shape. Yours is flat, mines more round. Never know what floats your boat until you try. Either way, it’s a spectacular watch.

Case in point... A watch too big for anyone's wrist (including Sly's), but when worn slightly loose, instead of strapping tight, it can be made to work! ;-)
