One watch to share?
Happy Easter everyone. My wife and I were invited to a special preview of this years Basel release on the 25th. The event is closed to the public and is by invite only. I’m sure many here on TRF will be attending a similar event in their region as schedule permits.
Being so privileged to get this invite, there is no way I’m not buying something from my AD the evening of the event. So my question to you all is: What watch would you recommend that both my wife and I could wear and enjoy? Taking into account- 1. Size 2. Ease of bracelet adjustability 3. Material/color 4. Gender neutrality We are definitely leaning toward precious metal. Not sure of our wrist sizes, but we are similar in height and structure but would definitely have to adjust the bracelet when swapped. I could pull off a 36mm case size, and in this day and age where women are wearing bigger watches, she could definitely pull off a 40mm case. She loves the Daytona but I’m not really a chronograph guy. We both love the president bracelet, but I think it would be hard to adjust while swapping back and forth. Of course I would rather make her happy so she will have the final decision of what we purchase. My dream for us would be the new Everose GMT but not sure if it’s feminine enough for her. All input will be greatly appreciated |

You need a glidelock, so go gold sub!

I feel like a Daytona would be a great choice. Realize you’re not much of a chrono guy, but maybe your wife would like it!

I’d go for two watches.

If you’re planning to switch often that’s going to be a pain no matter what bracelet. Glidelock is a good idea but that still may not be possible if your wrists are too far off.
Oysterflex may be the way to go. AD could order you an extra oysterflex and you’d just have to swap springbars and clasps. Might even be worth it to buy an extra clasp. If Daytonas aren’t your thing than maybe the RG Yachtmaster? |

You could always put a watch on a strap and buckle if being able to share is priority.
Otherwise the glide lock seems the only viable option and even then depends on wrist size not being too different. I doubt there’s enough adjustability in a daytona to make that work. |

Get the Daytona and a rubber B strap. Easy to share that way. Or maybe a 37mm Yachtmaster with a strap.

The presidential bracelet is not any more difficult to remove links than the oyster bracelets. However there is no micro adjustments, which can be problematic regardless of whether you’re sharing or not.
It’s too bad you’re not into the Daytona, cause the size is fantastic and your wife likes it. Either way, no matter what route you take, I’d recommend getting two bracelets. Perhaps if you pick up a DJ you could get one oyster and one jubilee. Anyhow, it makes it much easier to share a watch. I do the same with my dad. |

Buy two watches... why share when you can each have your own.

I got invited to the same event on May 1st. I won't be buying anything I don't want though. Pepsi GMT or no sale.

The event is a Basel preview which is a traveling watch roadshow that happens every year at major ADs around the world.... Nothing to "buy" from the event All they are showing are the new releases - non-working versions I've been to the NYC one (Apr 26) for years and also by invitation only... it's no different than walking into AD asking to be put on the list for the new 2018 watches...but at least you get to touch and wear them on your wrist |

Thank you Chris! Would love to get two watches, but after a Skydweller, a Smurf, and a Reverso for the wife all in the past twelve months, it’s a hard sell. I’m using the “but honey, we can both wear it” method so she will buy off on it |

I think we will get the Daytona. It’s not like I hate them, just not my favorite. Plus, I think it will be easier to adjust the bracelet. She can wear it a little loose and it should work out. Looking forward to the preview event. It will be my first. I’m sure my AD will be getting 2018 models in May. That’s when I bought my SD43 last year. I’ll post pics on what we decide. Thanks for the reply! |

One watch to share?
If you're not set on getting one of the new Basel 2018 releases, I'd recommend the 116621 Everose Rolesor YM. IMO looks great on both sexes. Also features Easylink, which could allow for easier sizing between the two of you.

My wife has this watch and I love it....on her. But at 37mm, it would be way small on me and really looks like a ladies model to me. Very feminine and "pretty". Not sure many men could pull it off but it is very nice on a lady. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
