Let’s all write a letter.

I wonder what Rolex Geneva’s response would be if they suddenly received 100-200 letters (not emails) from us regarding their new tactics (some ads requiring purchase of non wanted pieces to get on “the list “)? I’m curious as to what their response would be? I’ll write one who else is in?

They’d probably respond and ask why you sold all your Rolexes LOL!

Unpopular opinion, but I appreciate their “tactics” as I would rather have to hunt for a piece and have it retain its value than be able to walk in and buy it on the spot for a discount. It just makes it all the more special. :)

I agree, but having to hunt is different than being forced to buy something you don’t want first, I don’t mind waiting a few months or even a year. But many years is just ridiculous. But if you look historically which watch didn’t retain value over time when you could walk in and buy one?

I’m glad you could let me bust your balls a little bit We have all bought and sold so I am not judging You my friend. Rolex is always very secretive and answers to no one so we just have to shut up and take it but they make a damn nice product so it is tough to hate on them. The Daytona should be 15K and GMTs and Subs 11K so I think we are pretty lucky.

Yea youre right on the AD tactics for "building the relationship". My green sub was apparently used in a leverage deal with two PM pieces before the guy backed out.

Value retention has always been there youre right again. Idk, I am more just enamored with how crazy this watch market is right now.

I’ve never been forced to buy pieces I don’t want, in order to get the pieces I want. Where I live I have more than one AD to work with, therefore I can work with the one that treats me well.

Vote with your dollar(s). That is the only way long term to build a relationship AND not reward the dealer(s) for these tactics.

The "buy something you don't want to get on a list" thing is beyond ridiculous to me. The chances of me ever, EVER doing that is exactly 0.00%.

But who writes letters these days?

It's not really their tactics, it is overwhelming global demand that is the issue, and Rolex's reaction, whatever it is, makes hardly any difference in this tidal wave.

Rolex doesn't have anything to do with how you get on a Dealers list, or if they even have a list.

Look the tactic is despicable, but if you have no relationship and walk off the street and ask for a Daytona that you can flip for 10k next day why should they react differently

Yep. Business 101. Supply vs demand.

Rolex gives exactly ZERO F's. If we rounded up, still ZERO.

Shouldn’t the name of this thread be:

‘Let’s all waste our time.’

Why don’t you divide 200 by 800,000 (just their estimated production numbers in one year) and ask yourself if they would care about that? You’re not even talking about ONE TENTH of 1% encountering complaints. And that’s just for ONE year. but sure, carry on.

If you are writing a letter then it means you must really, really want a watch.

Find a different AD. It's that simple. I don't deal with the two closest to me because of similar tactics.

Earlier this year I almost foolishly walked out of an AD with two Tudor pieces that I didn’t really have an interest in, all for the privilege on getting on “the list”. On reflection my sentiments regarding the current practice would not be anything I’d be comfortable putting to paper!
