Never thought of it that way- but I agree

I agree 100% with the general sentiment here. Don't think the price is a factor at all. Just a matter of preference. I'm also with the Sub camp.

I love the date function on my watches. It’s important to me, but not others.

If a Submariner cost the same as a Sub Date?

It’s interesting the 5 digit models actually had several differences over the majority of their lives besides just the date: COSC, different dial, crystal and bezel diameters, middle case thickness, lug holes, SEL, etc.

Now the 6 digit Submariner and Submariner Date are identical save for the cyclops and date window.

Submariner wins for me. Save the date and magnifier for the GMT.

The price difference isn’t too much for a WIS but I bet it’s enough for your average joe to consider the ND and the price savings. I bet if they were the same price ND sub sales would decline.

I bought the Sub for its classic look and usefulness, and, as a retiree, who needs a date?

Love the balance on the no date but the date complication is so useful for everyday use.

I didn't care one way or the other. The lower price for the Submariner was just an added bonus.

I think that almost every watch has one or two elements which draw the eye because they are an important part of what makes us shell out these ludicrous amounts of money.
With the BLNR, it's the bezel. I just look at the bezel and think "hmmm. Nice shade of blue in this particular light". With the SD50, it's either the red script, the graduated bezel or the satin black dial. I linger on those features and think about why they are there and it never fails to give me a tiny shot of pleasure.

But, when I look at my Sub' on my wrist (and, of course, I don't mean on those rare moments when I erroneously think that you look at your watch in order to learn what the time is), nine times out of ten, my eyes are drawn to the 3 o'clock area. That beautiful, blister-free space that gives everything so much balance and, at the same time, recalls the original tool-watch nature of the Submariner.

I didn't buy the watch because it was cheaper than the date model. I bought it because I liked it better. The price difference was of absolutely no interest at all and, if the prices were reversed, I'd still choose the one that I liked the look of over the one that saved me from having to look at my phone for the date.
