Sea Dweller 4000 years of production?

I have a chance to buy a new Sea Dweller 4000 from my dealer today; what were its years of production? This watch, from what I know is popular, with a 40 mm size, and trying it on, it was not a lot different from my GMT BLNR -- in its size -- but for its weight and you know it is there. Dealer says this watch is hard to get. Opinions about them from those of you who own one? Robert

Here's an opinion, I feel it is the best dive watch ever made by Rolex. It maintains traditional profile yet has all the upgrades that Rolex has made over the years. On top of that it had a very limited run making it collectable. I love mine and I'm very happy to have one on my wrist.

Well, that's a 43mm Sea-Dweller, not the 40mm. It's still technically a Sea-Dweller 4000 but was just released in 2017 and is still in production. That's different than the discontinued 40mm model.

Nice watch no less. Buy it if you like it.

It's a great alternative to the submariner with date ... and the 40 mm size is ideal.

Yeah I mean look, it's not as if one is massively larger, has red text and a cyclops to differentiate it

I'm also confused at how the OP claimed it wasn't any different in size from his GMT2

Good question. My GMT2 looks bigger on my wrist than the SD4K. Maybe the slimmer lugs on the 43 threw him?

Side-by-side there's a massive difference. The photo you found is a great example.

That is pretty funny!!! I'd certainly notice the difference if it were on my 6.5 inch wrist!!! Sorry OP (Tshiemer) but it's (SD43) not close to the GMT either.

Yeah, not sure, as I stated above, perhaps he had a few at the bar around the corner before going in . Regardless, it's still a nice watch. I'd honestly consider a SD43 if it had all white text. I'm just a monochrome guy and think red letters look 'gimmicky'. It's large, but would be a great weekend watch IMO. 40mm is better for daily wear.

Wow I bought it and have a 126600! A modern Seadweller. Very comfortable and a good opportunity.

If you are not looking at it, the width of the watch does feel subjectively like about a 40mm; surprisingly the extra 3 mm is not that great of a difference. It is much less than the 45 mm Grand Ocean Omega or whatever it was years ago I tried briefly. Looking at it side-by-side to the two ceramic GMTs alternated, sure it is larger, but subjectively (disregarding the heavier weight) the extra 43 mm is not uncomfortable subjectively. Robert

Thanks right now I only have the two GMT ceramics and have had many subs in years past...and all the new ceramics seem much more robust ... in feel. Really this board teachestremendously about watches ... thank you

Which Sea Dweller 4000 was in production until 2008 then? I thought I saw one 5 digit one in pawn shop, year of production 2004 and immaculate looking. They are asking USD 6000 for it

There's been multiple variations of the Sea Dweller.....that's the 16600. There was none from ~2008-2014

Get it! I bought my SD4k brand new two weeks ago from my AD. There aren’t many left out there at AD’s; especially at MSRP! Fantastic watch and has potential to be worth quite a bit one day!
