Upset at rude dealer
I know that discounts are available for two tones. My local dealer offered an okay discount. I decided to check an out of state dealer (while on a road trip) and he offered a measly $200 off the price. I told him I was offered a more significant discount elsewhere and then he said I should go back there and enjoy my watch when I got one (in a very sarcastic tone). I was looking at some jewelry, but forget that...
This is going to be my first Rolex and it just put such a negative taste on my mouth. 😕😑 When am I ever going to get one? |

Does not seem rude to me, he gave you the only possible answer.

I’m confused. You state you had an initial offer on one, why not go back there?

If your local dealer (who would be the one to take care of any issues for you) offered you an "okay" discount I wouldn't blame you for checking around. But go back and buy it. The out of state dealer obviously doesn't want the business. Maybe they were sarcastic about it but it is not the end of the world.
You will get one when you go buy one somewhere??? I would go to the local guy and work him a bit more if you feel there is more to get and buy it or not. |

Rolex sells a lot of watches and many are very difficult to get. I just waited two months for an explorer II, an easier to get stainless model. Be patient. And be nice to these people in ADs. It makes a huge difference. Remember also that they don’t have much control, if any, over what they get from Rolex. Sure, some references sit in the case for awhile, but most turn over rather quickly. I was thrilled to get a new Explorer II at list price! So, it’s all relative. Decide what you want and don’t settle. And check out trusted sellers on this forum like davidsw. I got an almost new YM from him in February at a significant discount to retail. You’ll get what you want at a fair price. Sorry you have to wait a bit, but that’s a common refrain for those of us obsessed with these amazing machines! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It’s just business and there are always others out there. Don’t get insulted and keep shopping the best price. There can be huge swings. Also consider pre owned, where you can get the best discounts.

If that hurts your feelings, you need to get some thicker skin.
You told the guy you had a better offer...what did you expect him to say? |

Discounts devalue the brand. Good for the one dealer for holding the line. Watches on sale is about the least attractive thing for any luxury good

Do you really expect dealers to bid on who can sell you the watch the cheapest? It sounds like the guy at the second dealer was pretty experienced, and sized you up accordingly, and correctly. |

Sounds fine to me. What was the significant discount from your local AD? If you are solely looking for the best price and not looking to establish a relationship might want to check out the trusted sellers depending on the model you want. That might be the best price.

people said that about SS last year too. If a dealer doesnt have to sell for a discount why would they? You are not getting big discounts in london on TT or PM, and they sell just fine without.
Maybe an AD that is financially struggling, but healthy ones are not as desperate. This "entitled" to a discount is the issue. One dealer does so therefore all have to.

Full price is the fair price in the current market.
There was no rudeness on the part of the dealer. |

I had a Similar experience at an AD here in Ohio. I asked if they could cut me a break on the credit card fee of 3% since I had cash in pocket. They said no and I bought somewhere else. Their right to say no. My right to go elsewhere.

I'm a pretty thrifty guy, but I've never bought a Rolex or Tudor expecting a discount.

A-okay to hit for a discount on a TT but bargain hunting for the top percentage across any dealer you visit may take away from the experience a bit. Think of a reasonable % (taking into account today’s market, especially if it’s a TT sports model), emphasize you’re local and can become a loyal customer, and be happy if they say yes. You become happy with the % without cross comparing 10 dealers, they make a happy profit, and you can then start focusing on how it feels to own it!

With the lack of SS watches available the TT market has tightened up. Less discounts seem to be available on TT models now.

Go back to your local dealer and buy the piece at the “ok discount”. Job done.

I would just go to a different AD...not every AD offers discounts, especially if they’re in a market with high demand. And nowadays, I see ADs giving less and less even for two-tone...
And just like buying a car, if you can’t get the discount you want, move onto the 10 other dealers... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I understand the dealer not providing a discount, but I've never met sarcasm when shopping. Isn't their job customer service?
