Need help: Cousin is offering to trade his BLNR for my SubC

Both watches are in pristine condition. The offer is the BLNR + 1k cash for my SubC date. I’ve never even considered getting rid of my sub but I really do love the BLNR. Not sure if it’s a temp crush but I am considering this! good or bad move?

If sub is a ln than it’s a steal for you but if lv close to even but still better deal for you.

Why don’t you just switch watches every once in a while instead of doing a trade since it’s your cousin?

Batman brings more on the market than a sub does.

Between those two - I’d keep the Sub. The blue isn’t as classic.

Yes it’s a black sub LN with date. That’s a good recommendation, will consider, however due to difference in location wouldn’t be too easy to reach each other often. His main reasoning for selling is that he loves the simplicity of the Subs brushed bracelet & isnt a huge fan of the polished center links.

For sure you should do it ! a LVc for a BLNR is a VERY fair trade considering watch prices and rarity.

If your Sub is a LN, I find it strange that actually, your cousin wants to do this trade !!

Just my opinion...

If he is family you should be paying him $2K + your Subc for the BLNR. If not then it's not a fair trade for your Cousin it's how you say a bad move for him ....

I wouldn’t. Keep the sub - it is timeless. The BLNR is just one of the ‘du jour’ references right now.

If your Sub is an LN, I would probably do it if it was me. If you have an LV, that would make it a real tough decision if I was trying to decide. I personally like the LV and the BLNR about the same. In fact I'm trying to buy either one of these now, and whichever I find first is the watch I will end up with. I am that evenly split on the models.

In the end, these watches are about how they make us feel, and how happy it makes you. Go for the one that you like best and that you feel most excited about. :)

Thanks for the advice. I know what you mean. You don’t ever want to be a prisoner of the moment and later live to regret.

There were only 2 responses when I started writing my previous post, and you had not posted this one yet. Since I now know you have an LN, I would probably do the trade. There are threads here about the BLNR's polished links. People have refinished them with 3M Scotch Brite pads to give it that full brushed finish. I have to say that the end results look very good and looks as if it was factory. You may consider doing that as well, if you were going to keep it and weren't concerned about originality/resale. If you don't mind the PCL's, then this wouldn't be an issue for you. If you want to do the trade, I wouldn't show your cousin those bracelet refinishing threads!

If this is your cousin, maybe you both can trade off for a little while? That way you both can "test drive" each other's watches beforehand and see how you like it?

If yours is a LN then yes... If it's a LN then no! The LN imo holds more value and all rounder is a batter watch.

Do it!! I dont follow the market like some of these guys but if its way in your favor why not?

That blnr has been hard to get for a long time. A black sub will be easier to get now and moving forward than the blnr also. Jump on it and then get another sub shortly after?

Make the trade. Flip the BLNR. Pocket the extra $2K. Buy another LN.

No question. Take the BLNR and $1k and enjoy the heck out of it. You can always sell it down the road to fund a new Sub if you decide that’s the right move for you; you’d even end up with left over money in your pocket. But I suspect you’ll dig the BLNR and never look back. Good luck!

A subC LN can be had from AD fairly easily at retail or even a discount. BLNR not so. On paper - I would make that trade in a heartbeat from your side. That said follow your heart.

I'd go for it. You can source another Sub later on if you're unhappy.

Wait, who is getting the $1000? The cousin gets $1000 and the Sub, or the other way around?

If he gives up the BLNR and cash, he’s getting fleeced. You could offer a straight up trade watch for watch and still come out on top.

If one of the watches has an issue, it could create a problem that isn't worth it. Or if the cousin stumbles upon this thread and realizes that, value-wise, he got the short end of the stick.

Yeah, this would be about the worst thing you could do, relationship-wise. Wait till he sees you in a month without his watch, but with a brand new Sub, and hears the details.
