Yet starting out the post with “childish” is ok? I don’t prefer it or I’m not a fan seems more appropriate then saying it’s childish.

That is an apt description. These nicknames are indeed "childish". If you think that's grown up, well...

I have nothing against the OP but when the OP uses terms like "childish", "stupid", and "hate", then he opens himself up to a bit of push back. Actually, I think the push back was way more directed at another person. Once in a while, it's good to have people take a mirror and put it in front of you...to let you know how you are being perceived. May not be reality, who knows. We're on the internet. But it's perception.

Let me reiterate that this is purely my own opinion, if you don't share it, that's perfectly fine, but why attack and insult me?
Some of you clearly didn't read this forum's rules (https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=8936)
Some of you called this thread useless, which is fine, but they still went on reading all the way to page 5 and then posted their comments.
As a final though, for every nickname lover and diehard that replied here, please answer this simple question: When you call a Rolex watch ''Pepsi'', which model do you really mean? Is it the 6542 or the 16710? Is it the 116719BLRO or maybe it might be the 126710BLRO? Or maybe you just say ''Pepsi'' and mean all the models in Rolex's history with a red/blue bezel?
Yeah, you are not directly being heaped on. It is a polarizing topic, just like shortage, or holding papers, etc. just ride this one out.

Nicknames can be confusing to some , my parents always used Jesus Christ in front of Stewart I thought I was special when in fact I was very special

I'm not fond of the nicknames either.
Why tarnish such a wonderful prestigious feat of engineering and precision with nicknames from comic-book characters?!

There could be so many better nicknames for them, anything from planets, exotic animals, mythological creatures to rare elements etc.

I love given names for SS Rolex models.

It simplifies a lot which one we are talking about in a topic.

To the OP:
My suggestion is to practice the subtle art of not giving a f#ck.
If this bothers you, I'd hate to see how you handle life's REAL annoyances.

I'm okay even with AD sales using nicknames. Let's be realistic, not everyone is so into watches that they'd memorise reference numbers, so it might sometimes help with the nicknames.

And appealing to the customer and making their shopping experince a little easier is part of their job?

I mean I would have a problem if the AD sales actually didn't know the reference numbers...

I don't mind the Pepsi and Coke to distinguish inserts but not really into the Hulk and Batman more a LVc or BNLR guy.

I don't care what people want to call them, when discussing watches with my freinds we often refer to the nicknames as it makes conversation quicker and easier. Maybe it's the older generation that has a problem we are all in our 20s......LETS DO A POLL!!!!!!!! Lol only joking each to there own.

Nicknames are almost as bad as calling them Rollies. Bluesy is ok though.

Yeah I decided to call my 2Tone GMT IIc the killmonger. I only said this to throw some more fuel into the fire as I find it hilarious that people are getting upset over such a silly thing!

126660, DSSD, JC, Blue Whale, I don’t give a roaring rip because each time you knew what we’re talking about. It is generally impossible in a retail context to offend an inanimate object, and a consumer has to try pretty hard to take offense, but you walked out of the store mid sentence because someone who was trying to serve you wasn’t clairvoyant enough to know you have a bee in your bonnet on that issue. There are likely some waiters and waitresses that well remember the time they waited on this person.

Respectfully submitted.

Well...that’s what I was saying. People, some
More than others and that includes you, me, the OP, and everyone else on this thread, would benefit at times from having someone pick up a mirror and show them what they are/ OR perceived to be. Doesn’t happen enough in real life IMO. Too much self importance/ being petty about minor issues is way worse to me than using nicknames. Nice post, GTC.

Yeah I already addressed your post and your avid defense of the OP. Besides,
I think you’re being melodramatic with the word hate.

Love my Hulk and Batman..yes I know the ref numbers, but like nicknames. Go into a Rolex store and ask for a watch by the number only. See what happens. It's comical (pun intended)

I learned about the watches via the nickname. Would have no clue about model numbers before I got into watches.
