My.birthday is coming up and my mom wants to buy me a new Seiko should I go with the 007 or 009

If she is willing to spend just a bit more, go for the SRP779. I wear mine for work and play and I love it. I enjoy it just as much as other watches I own that cost many thousands more.

is the price difference between the 009 and 175 worth it ? about 20 difference
will the 175 be more rare in the log run

No, they're all pretty easy to find. I think the SKX007J is considered the "more rare" model

Don't worry about rarity, the SKX is an amazing part of any collection. People post pics of their collections with 80k Pateks and Rolex's...but then you look down in the corner and theres the SKX. It sits proudly in even the most lavish collections.
