What's NOT Hot?
Long story but I have around $6K USD to spend on a watch. Prefer new. I know most Pateks and Rolexes (and AP) I would be interested in are all going for over MSRP pre-owned and hard/unable to get new (not that $6K would buy anything from those makers of course; $6K is my floor. Would like to keep total under $15K if possible).
Being a novice in the watch realm, what's out there that would be worth looking at? JLC? Omega? VC? What brands (if any) are "out of style" now? I've never been "in style" anyhow and don't mind that at all. Have a PP 5146, Polar EII and Hulk. Open to either dress or sport. I wear the PP almost all the time unless I think it may get wet or dirty. That's what the EII is for. Thanks for any suggestions! |

id say for 6k id get an air king.
under 15k id get either a sd43, ap diver black, sky dweller or 18238 day date,or dj 41. you can go on watchrecon and put a limit of 15k to see what comes up.

You may also wish to consider other brands such as Tudor, or Grand Seiko

What's hot, whats not?
Does it really matter? No What do you like and what appeals to you most? I'd suggest getting out and having a look. Take sometime and buy whatever appeals most to you. Do you live in an area or can you get to a location which has a good selection of things to look at and start there.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how a "novice in the watch realm" already owns $60K worth of watches

Lange and Vacheron but I would not aim to buy what’s not hot as a principle. Buy what’s awesome.

Exactly.
Get what you like, forget about whats hot. It is irrelevant. I remember I asked between a Day Date and a GMT and was told the Day Date. My final choice was the GMT and man am I happy I went with my gut and my true feelings, and not based on someone else liking. Now if your in it to make money off the watch in the future thats another avenue.

You could get a Lange Saxonia for that money, or a VC Overseas or Breguet Marine for something more sporty, all very Haute brands.

Preowned Dj or Milgauss. A couple of dollars more an Explorer II. JLC Reverso is also iconic.

Why buy anything else if you enjoy wearing your Patek? You've got all bases covered.
Do you want something colourful or flashy? Small size at 34-36mm? A big chunky diver? |

To finish the story, my dealer was able to get me a pre owned "Batman" LNIB full set. I paid market price, which is a little painful since I passed on a new one at retail before the SS sport watches blew up. And yes, I haven't set the 24 hour hand in the pic. Came in yesterday and I've been busy at work.
The watch looks unworn; the warranty card is from 06/18. Thanks for all the suggestions. Taking a break from adding any more, but would now consider a GS spring drive as well as a Speedmaster. Would like a SS Daytona, but not at today's market pricing. I was going to get a Speedmaster moon phase chronograph until I saw it's 16 mm tall. Wow. |

I gave up trying to figure out what is “hot or not” long ago.
Eventually, what was once old will be new and desireable again, so buy what you like and think twice before discarding. |
