Girlfriends's son is getting married. Needs a nice watch
My SO's son is getting married next January and she wants to buy him a nice watch to wear for the wedding and just to have. Her budget is around $3500. She wants to buy new.
He is a big guy at 6'3" and probably 225 lbs. I'm steering her towards a Tudor Black Bay or possibly an Omega Seamaster. He does love the water. I showed him my Tudor GMT yesterday. Mine has 2 links taken out of it and he couldn't even get it on his wrist. Anything smaller just looks silly on him. We are very open to suggestions. Thanks. |

could grab a black dial IWC aquatimer on the gray market for around $3500. 42mm but wears bigger. their standard rubber strap is pretty long so should fit wrists up to around 9"

Breitling has some good options with sizes between 42-44mm, good water resistance and within budget.

I've always liked this one. You get a lot of bang for the buck:
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=611926 if you can swing it a bit or chip in: https://www.jomashop.com/iwc-watch-iw377709.html https://www.jomashop.com/panerai-rad...ctpage-nosto-3 i agree with the pelagos but these are different and bigger watches. especially the radiomir which is 45 MM.

He is a big lad.
Buy him whatever he wants. But not a TAG.

Black Bay or Pelagos would both do nicely.

Give him some options to choose from and help the girlfriend to increase her budget a little

Definitely Tudor, talk to him about his color and style preferences, as he will have to wear it.

Agree on the Pelagos blackbay seamaster train.
Although not my first choice Breitling makes some nice stuff in the price point that many people would prefer over the above options. I know all my friends who don’t want to swing a Rolex prefer Breitling as it’s a brand they have heard of.

I think both your Tudor and Omega choices are excellent. would incline towards the Black bay

3500 new. You're right on the cusp of gray market speedy pro territory at that budget.

I would agree with all the above but would also take a look at something like a Seiko Prospex Marinemaster. fabulous watch, will last a lifetime and ticks the "big enough" box quite nicely.

Thanks for the responses. Some good ideas of watches that were not on my radar.
I thought about the Speedy, but he likes to swim too much. However, that may be a contender. |

Has he expressed any interest in luxury watches himself?
Would it be appreciated? If not, this could be a waste of effort and money. $3500.00 in the luxury watch scene is almost insignificant, but in the real world it is a useful sum of money... |

another vote for a pelagos..
or, if you can find a good enough deal, that price point is right around what you would expect to find a gently loved planet ocean. we seem to have the same body type, and that would work out well on him. I know this one is sold, but is right in your sweetspot and is an everyday wearer! https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...ghlight=planet |

I feel like Tudor is a brand mostly appreciated by watch enthusiasts. A regular dude would probably prefer a brand like Panerai or Breitling. My brothers are non WIS and each own these brands and also IWC
Large, nice dial and case finish, and ETA movements for the win The pelagos, while excellent in many respects, does not look like a $4000 watch to the average Joe |

I second the MM300. I love mine. I'm 6'2" and about 210 pounds... I wear it every day, and it's a phenomenal watch for the money spent.

Tudor Pelagos or Black Bay Black...
If Omega then Speedmaster Moon. You might want to consider a Breitling also , GMT or Superocean as Breitling makes a nice 44 mm watch . |

Agree with this. If he wouldn’t appreciate a nice watch, cut the budget to $1500 and put the rest towards their honeymoon. They may appreciate that more.

I think he'll like a Breitling most or Omega.
