Do your ADs know about Rolex Forums?
I've been speaking with ADs a lot more since joining RF - as mentioned here, it helps to build knowledge and understanding. Of the half-dozen ADs I have spoken to, only one knew (or claimed to know) about these forums.
Do you speak to your ADs about these forums? Do they know about them? I would imagine it is a good source of public opinion for them or in the worst case scenarios, they sit there laughing at some of the stories we come with to explain availability (or lack thereof). |

tell them to read the rolex forum, it's better than sitting there doing nothing with the empty cases. and its job related.

I’m not sure that I want my AD to know that I know about all the things we write and read about here on TRF.

Most probably don't care. I don't go on forums related to my day to day job. I already hear enough about work at work!

It doesn’t matter to me. Heck, most people who work in ADs aren’t even “watch people”

They do indeed. In fact, a few post on here!
When I was in the process of deciding what watch to buy early last year, I walked into my local AD and posted my impressions on here. Soon after, a gentleman got in contact who worked for the same AD but in another location. He asked how was I getting on and as the months went on and I put my name down at my local store, he also put my name down in his branch (So I would get the watch if my local couldn't) and even sent me some swag, like the official Rolex Magazine that I was after. So yes, they're about! :) |

Most of the salespeople I deal claim they don't know about forums. Whether it's watches, or cars or cell phone plans, nobody seems to ever know...

My local AD is family owned with two locations. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the owner frequently reads TRF. He's on the floor of his business often, he directly interacts with customers, and seems very specifically knowledgeable when it comes to the watch brands he sells. The remainder of the staff; I'd be surprised. It's not that they aren't incredibly helpful and generally knowledgeable, but you can tell they aren't aficionados and that's alright.
I have yet to be in my AD and overhear a conversation with another customer wherein that other customer has even remotely the same level of knowledge regarding Rolex as the members here do. Most people just don't care enough and that is perfectly fine. The vast majority of people who go into an AD looking for a watch ask to buy a Rolex. They are unaware of differences in models or are not aware that Rolex makes models other than a Submariner. Many have to be educated that one model is platinum or white gold and that another is stainless steel and that's why the prices are dramatically different. |

the vast majority of sales people at AD's that i have come across both in Europe and the US are not watch people, they are sales people. Being on TRF would be what we would do if we sold watches. To them watches, widgets, or whatever, its sales and not a passion.
Try dropping internet shorthand into the conversation and they are all confused... PM, AD, WIS. If they were here they would know. Nicknames they get but those are used much more widely than internet forums.

I was at an ORJ last night with a friend picking out his first Rolex. One of the sales guys noticed my YM and we started chatting. He mentioned that he didn't like the old clasp that was on the 16622, so I told him I actually replaced it with the older style Daytona clasp. He was in awe because he said he could never find it on the forum or eBay. I am guessing he knows about the forum, but doesn't visit frequently. I know my ORJ doesn't know about TRF for a fact. How do I know? I asked him straight up.

Mine DEFINITELY does. Ditto with the Grays.
They often sit around and have a good laugh at people posting incoming threads, showing off their new hard to get pieces, talking about how much they LOVE it and its a keeper... while that very watch is sitting on their desk, already sold to them. Its a small community. |

Many I’ve talked to sure do. I’ve found that ADs have WIS people and ‘generalist’ reps (who usually know less than I do). The true watch guys and gals are aware of the forum but I don’t have. A good sense of how much time they spend. They do keep a finger on the pulse, as it were.

Some obviously do as some member got caught by his AD as he bought a TT CHNR and placed it for sale in the classifieds here same day! Apparently the s**t hit the fan, the AD blacklisted him and said watch was removed for sale quickly.
