New Tudor or 2 decade old Rolex
I want up to spend 4k and am un-decided on the following...
a. should I purchase a 20 year old Rolex.....or b. should I consider a used Tudor Pelagos , North flag or maybe Black Bay What do fellow horological folks suggest/recommend, what would you pick? |

Tough call but I think I’d rather have the Rolex. Mostly because the black bay is the only Tudor that does anything for me, and I certainly wouldn’t want to own two of them.
4K is a little tight though. What watch were you thinking? |

I'd try to save a while and get a modern used Rolex.

I'd go for the Rolex saving a bit more towards a newer example.

Be mindful of when the last service of the watch was carried out especially when it comes to waterproofness. You will want to set aside some funds for servicing. If in doubt have the watch pressure tested or checked for servicing.

It simply depends on the model. For that money, I'd either be looking at a Rolex 16200 or Tudor 76200. I've owned both, and I chose the Tudor, simply because of the day complication.

Just to add I sold my Black Bay to fund the OP 39mm.
The BB is a lovely watch but it scratches very easy. The bracelet seems to be very soft. The mirrored finish on the lug sides are even worse. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk |

I am not a vintage type of guy so I would go b. a used Tudor Pelagos , North flag or maybe Black Bay. Also most of the new Tudors looks amazing to me. Especially the black bay's and advisor.

With a 4k budget, you're most likely looking at vintage DJ's. At that point I'd rather go with a BB or Pelagos. Definitely depends on if you're looking for an everyday wearer or more of an occasional dressy piece though.

The Rolex would have been the better choice here for me, but considering only 4k could be hard to pull off a good Rolex at the said amount, so the Tudor would do a good job and be assured of quality for the price.

Put any 20 year old sub 4k Rolex side by side with a new Pelagos.
It will speak for it self. Nostalgia? Eh |

For a bit over £4k you can buy a Rolex Explorer I 39mm and it'll hold its value / if not appreciate because I think price increases are going to come again to the UK and globally soon.
