GMT owners... Help me with old VS. New

I've had my SS Daytona a year now and am totally bonkers about it.... (not sure if that's a word). I had to sell my Coke GMT II to help finance the purchase... just one of those things, but I found that I really miss the GMT and if I got another, would probably wear it about 25% of the time, at least when I travel (which I do quite a bit). Sooooooo.... I've been looking around and considering the purchase of a GMT II. I've been out of the GMT world for a while so here is the dillema.

Do I purchase the new C, or go back to the one I liked in the old coke version? I REALLY like the appearence of the coke, probably a bit more then the C, but how do the movements compare? There is the trip lock versus the older duel-lock crown, but is there that much difference in the inner-workings of the C to warrant spending the extra money on a second watch?

Does anyone know if the new(er) movement has the new Parchromimum- Paracronical- Para- Blue springy thingy? And any other vast improvements? If any of you had (have) a coke/pepsi AND the newer C, do you find it to be more accurate or any other differences?

The new 116710 "C" has the parachrome spring. By all accounts the "M" series 16710 has the parachrome spring as well. The triplock 116710 "C" is rated at the same depth rating as the twinlock 16710.

Paul, accuracy for any given watch will vary. The IIc does have the updated spring as well as some other minor differences. I'd say most of the changes are in the case, dial, bezel, and bracelet.

The IIc is a wonderful piece if perhaps a bit less versatile than the 16710. One has to consider not only the ability to swap inserts, but the 120 click ratching bezel as opposed to the 24 positions of the IIc.

The maxi dial of course will give the better lume due the surface area, but is that a deal breaker on a GMT reference?

The older watch is lighter (IMO) and wears closer to the wrist, but again we are all different.

Mine are +1 (IIc) and +2 (16710) not really a lot of difference.

It's really a personal choice.



Another option, if lume is not a consideration, might be a vintage GMT. I'm a big fan of the 16750. It's true quick-set date feature and the warmth of acryllic, along with the thinner case make it such a joy to wear.

With current pricing this is great time to add a vintage piece to the stable.

i have had both.. but the C is far superior. just my 2 cents

I've also had both (something like six of the 16710 and one ceramic)...although the GMT II was my favorite watch for a while, it would be extremely hard to go back from the ceramic. The increased heft, case, and clasp are excellent upgrades. Older models feel cheap on the wrist.
