Dumb idea?

Hey forum,
I love my steel Daytona 116520 but would love a ceramic white dial 116500. Do you think I have a chance in hell of doing a trade without shelling out a ton of extra cash? Maybe someone who scored at msrp and loves the all steel look better? Anyhow I know it’s a long shot but anyone else successfully do it?

Are you looking to swap your used watch with a brand new or used Daytona C?

If used, and judging from adverts here, it will be around 2-3k difference.

If brand new it will be 1-2k more.

Unless you strike a deal with another "normal" member, I suggest that you sell yours independently from the purchase deal as doing such swaps with grey dealers will always result in money left on the table from your side as they need to make margins on both watches. Good luck.

I do not think you have any chance of someone doing a straight up swap with you, sorry.

Not a chance, but good luck. You may run into somebody that had the contacts to source a D500 but doesn't have access to the internet.

Don't part with your watch. In your own words, you said you loved it. Why would you get rid of something you love?

Add the D500 down the road when you get the opportunity. My two cents.

Not happening. Anyone looking to do that can flip with a trusted seller and get 3-4k back

That really seems like a stretch to me, given the demand and the premiums people are willing to pay.

Besides, I think it's always a bad idea to part with any watch.

I don't think so. Good luck trying, stranger things have happened.

In the end the one that is no longer being made will be more collectible. Having both would be ideal!

If I find a Daytona C on the sidewalk today, I will trade even up with you...so there is a chance it could happen. I like the pre-C version over the latest version by a huge margin.

If I hadn't taken so long looking for the perfect pre-C 520 I'd have one today. They climbed about $4000 in value in a relatively short time. I'm just not paying $16,000 or more for a used watch even if I can afford to.

I personally don’t think trading a watch you actually love for a watch you’d love to have is a good long-term move.

if it was a zenith...

in seriousness I would just add a 500 and keep the 520. I know rolex aren’t investments but i believe it is a cash alternative.

Once you've had....seriously--the black looks far better.

That watch looks great. Obviously you’ll need extra cash for the ceramic. If you have the cash, why not?
