Realistic to buy a WG Day-Date in the $8K range?

I am seriously thinking about buying my dad a Rolex for his birthday, which is in February. He presently wears a two-tone Ebel and mentioned last weekend he has been thinking about buying a new watch and while he could easily afford a nicer watch he would never buy one for himself. I thought a nice Rolex would make an excellent 70th birthday gift, one he would really enjoy and be shocked to receive.

I certainly haven't decided on which one to buy, but I am keep coming back to a WG President, it just seem like it would be an almost perfect watch for him, very nice, but without the flash of a YG President. I'm not ready to pull the trigger as I'm still considering a TT model as well, either a YM or Sub, I'm doing a LOT of looking, which brings me to my original question

For those of you that are more active in the watch game than I, is it realistic to expect, read hope, that I could purchase a relatively plain, no diamond dial, bezel, etc, WG Day-Date under ten years old in the $8K range? I've found numerous WG's in the $11K range, but I'm just not sure I want to drop that much. Just wondering if I should, for the most part, cross a WG DD off my mental list, or it is something that might be a realistic choice.

Thanks in advance for any and all insight!

You never know, you may BUT I don't think its likely especially at
this time of year as people are holding their prices firm till after the
holiday

Unfortunately the lowest White gold Day-Date double quick is around 11.000 used and 19.000 brand new.
The slow change acrylic (plastic) crystal white gold and or platinum sell for more...go figure..!

Thanks, guys. JYogi, I am kinda curious as to what the new year will bring to pricing, I wish his birthday wasn't in Feb as I think things will drop a bit more in the spring, but we shall see. Like I said, I'm not 100% set on a WG DD, but I think it is at the top of my list.

It is quite telling to see where watches are actually selling. I see the same watches listed over and over again, some with slight price reductions, but obviously no takers, yet see the same watch listed at 20%-25% below an average of the current asking prices and they seem to move quickly. It's obviously a buyers market.
