I think a Datejust is a good option. The 36mm case has many dial, bezel, and two bracelet options. You can get one that is very unisex in design or one that has many feminine cues (floral dials, etc).

Need advice, give us more to work with.
Budget? Small wrist or big wrist? Something more dressy or more everyday? What type of watches does she have now? Diamonds or no diamonds? |

If I was buying a watch for your wife (don’t get mad at me, it’s what you asked), I’d probably first ask her a) if she likes watches, and if she says yes then, b) what kinds of watches does she like. Then I’d take her to the store and have her point out some that she likes...maybe even try them on. Is any of this making sense?
Also, see related thread here for some nice ideas: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=646233 |

What you would like to do is of no consequence. :-)
If *she* would like a watch, now that's a different story. You already know what to do in that case because you've done it before for yourself: find out what price point she will be comfortable with, show her lots of pictures, have her try on some stuff, then use your knowledge to find the best within those parameters. After I successfully completed these steps, my wife rotates between a white and rose gold g-shock (MSG-W200G-7AJF) or a LUCH one hand watch out of Belarus. ... or just buy her a Pearlmaster, those things are awesome! :-D ;-) |

Just bought mine a 31mm Silver/WG DJ with fluted bezel and diamond markers for Xmas. As timeless as I could think a watch would be. She’s not super into watches, but I’m trying to get her to join the club... so she stops beating me up for it. Fingers crossed.

Best advice for a watch has already been offered, "let her pick out a watch", that is if she even wants a watch.

If she's anything like my wife, buy her something with a battery! Got my wife a Datejust a few years ago which she wears a couple of times a week. She doesn't like to hassle with winding and setting it, so she's always got the time and date wrong. Drives me nuts to see it, so I set it for her every chance I get.

Having been divorced twice, the best marriage advice is: "don't take marriage advice from me".
However, one of the first lessons I learned is to let the wife select her jewelry. Enjoy the process of gifting. Cheers. |

This is good if you want to surprise her, but I would take her in a store and see what she likes.

Make sure she gets the full experience of buying a Rolex. Take her to a few ADs, let her try several models, sizes, dial types... Feel the weight, difference in bracelets, material, etc.
The journey can be as good as the destination. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

If she won't likely often wear or appreciate it, don't buy it so you feel better about spending a ton on watches. I bought my wife a $500 watch that she loves but to put us on a more level playing field, the big money was better spent on rings and earrings.
