Turned 30 and Treated Myself to A birthyear Watch 168000
I have been looking for a nice clean Submariner ref. 168000 for years now, and decided to pull the trigger on this one.
I like the rarity of the 168000 reference, and that it combines the classic 3035 movement, with the newer 904 steel, and since it was made in 1988-ish I thought it would be a great birth year watch to hunt for. It's my first Rolex and I love the look, and I feel great wearing it, but I am definitely paying extra close attention to what my wrist is near for fear of hitting it on something. Just wanted to show off my new baby...that's as old as me. Thanks Now its time to find something else to hunt for. |

Congrats! There is something special about wearing a birth year watch.
What a watch for your first, I've owned over a dozen Rolex watches and still hunting for the right birth year. Wear it in good health and happiness in holidays.

Looks great. I've had mine since 1988 and it still gets a lot of wrist time.

Good looking specimen. I had one of those, and it wasn't as nice. Congrats.

I am willing to bet the watch will still be rocking n’ rolling on your wrist by the time you are 60! Enjoy!

Great first watch and happy birthday!
No need to 'baby' a Submariner but definitely keep your wits about you if and when there's a potential for damage. Early on I banged into plently of door frames wearing my Rolexes and while I've never sustained damage, I learned to be mindful of potentially harmful situations and be a little more careful. Not that doorways are dangerous! (What is it about door frames anyway!? I'm not a klutz and never treat my watches carelessy but I guess I had some kinda 'swingin arm' motion back then.) Anyway, I only take it off washing dishes or shaving - tile floors can be devastating if you have wet hands and drop your watch. Lots of horror stories in TRF archives. So my friend, enjoy that Sub and wear it in good health. Mark 'swingin arm' P Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk |

Very nice, I'm also 30 in a few days, got myself a Omega Seamaster 300 and Tudor BB GMT for my 30th, along with a Porsche Cayman S.
Going to try get a birth year Rolex for my 40th.

In 1988 they transitioned to a 168000 (triple zeros) and changed the metal from 316L steel to 904L steel till 1989 then they decided to discontinue the reference to 16610... This is the shortest production reference made for submariners...
