Look at the case back and the crown. Much more difficult to machine.

I believe it’s just an aesthetic choice by Rolex. Makes it easy to differentiate. Also, heresy, not everyone loves the fluted bezel. Too flashy. This is one of the reasons I got the platinum and also the DJ all steel.

How do you DD Platinum owners find it holds up to scratches? I see a lot of talk that platinum is very durable but I wonder about how the smooth bezel looks after a few years if left alone? Could some of you post pictures of the patina? I've seen a new very shiny one at my AD but I have little idea what a worn one looks like. Do you leave it as is, or do you polish it?

I'll chime in, but I'm not sure how helpful this will be. I've had my DD40 for a little less than a year and a half. Although it is not a daily wearer, it has seen a fair amount of wrist time. I do tend to be pretty careful, but I have virtually no scratches at this point.

Thought I'd bump this.
Spring is right around the corner. But that is snow in the background. It's going to be a while longer here.

I think it is not manufactured on the flutted style due to the difficulty in working with the platinum in achieving it

No. Look at the crown. Or the bezel on a YM. Or the detail on the clasp.

It’s done to further distinguish it from white gold models.

Well the WG DD model comes with smooth bezel (reference 118209) so doubt that is the reason
