New member. considering YM 116621

Hello All. Ive been perusing the forums for a few weeks but finally decided to post. I bought my first Rolex last week, well actually for my wife. 34MM Date. I have been waiting on a Hulk to become available for myself but I visited my local AD this week and they received a 40MM YM Everose black dial. I really liked it, although it is a bit ostentatious but can easily be played down a bit with a 3rd party Nylon Strap for everyday wear. Definitely a step up price wise compared to the Sub but what are y'alls thoughts? Ive read that the YM might not necessarily hold its value as long. Any experience on how it wears compared to the sub?

Thanks in advance

Most two tone watches don't hold their value real well, especially the yacht master line. It is a beautiful watch and you should buy what you want as watches should not be looked as an investment. Stainless watches hold their value much better. The 116613 is one of the exceptions on the TT list. Good luck

Welcome to the forum! That’s a decision you should make based on what you like and what you want in a watch. If you really want a 116610LV (green Sub Date) then do your research on it and have cash in hand ready to pounce on any reasonable opportunity that presents itself. Good luck and welcome to the current Rolex climate!

From the way you discuss it don’t do it. Wait for what you really want.

If you can afford the PM YM but want the LV, I would say google DavidSW and check out his green Subs. (You can thank me later)

The YM line is, for some reason, notorious for not holding its' value.
Buy lightly pre-owned or at a big discount.
This is from personal experience.

If you like tt, I don’t think you would go wrong with the rose gold tt YM. It is such a rich, beautiful watch. The platinum bezel adds a lot of depth to the watch.

Hello OP.. I have the YM 116621 Chocolate dial, as well as the Hulk. First, let me tell you that it has been years since I got a TT, it was some much in fashion in the 80s and 90s that I got really bored of them, and I sweared that I'll never wear anoyher TT in my life.. that is till I walked into an AD and saw the YM Chocolate in person. That was exactly a month after receiving the Hulk that I was wearing quiet often.. since then, the YM is the one of my watches that is getting the most wrist time (it's been almost 2 1/2 years).
Don't worry about it being a bit ostentatious, it all depends with what you wear it.. as long as you wear it casually, it's not a problem at all.. you really don't have to downplay it, it's beautiful the way it is. Concerning the resale value, and I am going to be flamed for what I am going to say, it's true that TTs have a tendency to depreciate more than SS, and I could understand that being the criteria of choice if you have limited ressources and want to be able to upgrade later on. But if you have the financial means, just buy what you like.. Remember, Rolex is a luxury item, and this is what luxury is all about, you buy it because you like it, and you can, period. I.e, you wouldn't consider the resale value if you want to buy John Lobb shoes, would you? As far as an investment go, watches are NOT an investment.. you can work in watches, but you can't invest in watches. Watches being an investment is a pure invention that guys came up with to justify to themself, or their wife, spending money that may or may net be discretionary.
Bottom line, you know better, just go for what you like and can afford, regardless of what others think. Don't forget to post pictures.

Her's a picture of mine if it can help you decide

The YM has always been a niche market piece. In other words, if it's your thing, it's your thing and if not, not. There just isn't much middle ground.

I wouldn't get it unless it's your thing. And only you're gonna know that.

I wouldn't call it ostentatious. I would call it pretty or handsome if you prefer. It's for people who like something a bit less standard than the normal tool watch genetic provide. I've always loved the YMs but have never found the right deal on one. Congratulations if you get it. It's much more eye catching than most Rolex watches. The LV is nice too but I think I'd get overwhelmed by all that green. My Dad was a Dartmouth grad. If he were still alive I'd get one for him. I often thing about getting something in green to help me think of him more frequently.
