Should I be concerned about Rolex Serial# being compromised?
I have a modern Rolex posted for sale on Chrono24. Had an offer to buy, but the buyer was insistent on finding out the serial number of the watch. Shared the number and he immediately rescinded his offer. This all seems fishy to me, should I be concerned that a random person knows the serial number to my watch? What is the worst that can happen?

I would imagine worst case scenario is they use the number to incorporate into their Replica watches. Maybe the potential buyer had second thoughts and decided against it. Some people are superstitious and get freaked out if they don’t like certain numbers in the serial. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Is it a random serial number? Do you have documentation such as the warranty card? If it was a non random number maybe it wasn't the right year. If you have the original paper work than you have significant proof it's yours. The worst that can happen is that it is reported as stolen. I'd likely not have given the full serial number out as a partial number would have given enough info to the guy.

The worst is that HE is now reporting it as stolen. But there is also the slim chance he had a watch stolen and is hunting for it on the interwebs. He can’t check Rolex’s list of stolen watches - even ADs can’t check. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

what would be the benefit of the buyer reporting the watch is stolen, when I hold original warranty card and receipts?

The biggest issue with showing a serial number is that you get people over, and over, and over telling you that "Your serial number is showing". It's not worth the headache.

don't worry, what I don't get is car forums hide their plates when posting pics on the net but when they drive everyone see's it.

Yeah i find this quite interesting as well. Obviously there is something to worry about, or else no one would bother covering up the serial number when they post a watch up for sale. Just not sure what exactly someone could do with someone else's serial number.
