Exactly why I haven't bought one. If I find a ceramic black bezel, I'd have it fitted on a Platona.

For platinum I’d personally get something that is not a Rolex. I like the PP 5196p.

I would choose the one you would wear more often. The sporty Daytona or dressier Day-Date. You have so many sports watches, personally I would go Day-Date. Warning! Once I bought a PM it made my SS watches seem quite pedestrian. Now I only want PM. More expensive hobby.

Although I love DDs they just don't compare to the Daytona; too stayed imho.

How does a DJ2 look like a Platinum DD with sky blue dial?

Without doubt for me it would be the Day date

Couple points I’d consider, if choosing between the two....
-The DD will show more wear on the bezel, but the bracelet hides scratches well. -The Daytona, just the opposite.
-The DD a bit more elegant vs a sportier Daytona
-Both are gorgeous, but I’d say the Daytona is more interesting to look at (with brown sub-dial version)

If I had your collection.....I’d trade the Daytona’s you have towards a YG DD40, and purchase the platinum Daytona. JMO
Good luck!
Those points raised are SPOT ON!

I'd flip the Black Daytona, the Sub, and the DJ towards the Platona.

I agree they looks very similar. One of the reason I ended up with the Daytona!!! Yes the dials are different but I couldn't help but see my DJII each time I viewed the Pt DD. On the other hand the Pt Daytona resembles other Daytonas as well. That's not all bad!!!

At the price point of a platona, you can buy a real haute horology watch. For the diamond dial platona (which I think is the best option for a platona), you can get a Kari Voutilainen bespoke, hand-made watch in gold or add a bit for platinum. Just an example, there are lots of options, another example would be a platinum Patek chronograph, gorgeous. Or, get a platinum FPJourne automatic with a hand-finished movement in solid 18k rose gold and save yourself a couple tens of thousands of dollars, more or less.

Point is, there are options beyond Rolex well worth looking at and many of them are very wearable.

Having said that, now that I have a few platinum watches, I keep coming back to the pt DD40, ice blue romans dial. Maybe! But, again, there are some really nice watches out there...

I agree 100%. The only way to buy platinum Rolex is used at a 50% discount. This way they kind-of, almost make sense.

I voted DD40 and love the clean look with the ice blue dial. I was never sure about the brown on the Platona and if that works well with ice blue. Cheers!

I think the Platona holds value better because of its sportiness, I would pick the Platona over the DD. Just not a fan of the smooth bezel on the platinum DD.
BUT if you wear the Platona not many people will think that you paid a lot for it because it looks like stainless steel, but if people see you with the DD platinum they'll know you paid a lot for it since it's only available in precious metals.

I’d L O V E to find a PT DD or Daytona at a 50% discount :)

Agree...Daytona holds value a bit better right now. Although...99% of the people won’t know or care what you’re wearing anyway...and most who wear platinum, don’t wear it for any attention. To most of the world .....it’s SS, no matter the model.

DD40. A dressy watch will fit very nice in that collection.

Agree with both comments.

We tend to lose perspective on this forum about others' perceptions of what we're wearing. The fact that it's a Rolex period would be enough of a shock to most of the non-WIS population...who are not schooled nor could care less about what precious metals are and what they cost. My two cents.

It's not difficult to find a half-price Pt DD. I've no interest in any Daytona, so can't comment on those.

Tried both on next to each other at my AD the other day. The Platona definitely has the bigger "wow" factor. There's more going on, and I find the Platinum DD40 a bit plain looking with just the smooth bezel.

Repeat after me: "My name is ______ , and I am addicted to awesome SS models." LOL. But seriously, I would get a Day Date in that collection!

DD2. I can't live without a deal. You're paying top dollar for the daytona.

No comments on the collection? This is the best collection I have ever seen.
