Tudor Black Bay Naming

Dear Tudor,

Why do you have lots of very different watches called "Black Bay?"

Black Bay
BB S&G
BB Steel
BB Dark
BB GMT
BB Bronze
BB Fifty-Eight
BB 32/36/41
BB Chrono

Here is my suggestion to simplify Black Bay naming

Black Bay (non-date)
-comes in various bracelets, straps, bezels, and PVD finish. This includes the current Black Bay and BB Dark.

Black Bay Date
-comes in two tone, with various straps, and in steel bezel, with various straps. This includes the current BB S&G and BB Steel.

GMT
-just like Rolex, allow the GMT name to stand on its own. No need to call this the Black Bay GMT.

Fifty-Eight
-maybe get this a new name, but it can stand on its own.

Black Bay Bronze
-although this is a different case size than other Black Bays, this can jsut sort of be known as a larger, special, different metal black bay.

Chrono
-get this a new name

32/36/41
-this is its own unique series, get it a new name.

And I would put the name on the dial of each watch to develop model identity.

Dear Rolex:

why do you call watches different names when they are basically the same watch?

How about :
Mini Sub
regular Sub
Giant sub
fancy sub
fancy sub on oysterflex

Tudor replied and said that it's a good thing you haven't remembered to add Heritage before the Black Bay which they've subtlely been omitting in recent years. Also they said that they didn't want the Non Date misnomer to affect their brand as it has Rolex.

6 of those have the same case. In terms of the black bay line it is defined by crown, hands, dial and case being very similar. I agree they should kill some models.

That's true. Many are the same case. However, Rolex has two watches using the case that are distinct models--Milgauss and Air King.

You know like Daytona so to say.

always reminds me of the ship in the pirates of the caribbean. Its the black pearl, but for some reason the name has a pirate vibe to it

Yes true. It must mean something to Tudor to name a whole line up Black Bay. Be interesting find out.

Maybe Black Pearl was already trademarked ha.

If you go onto the Tudor website and onto the Black Bay section you will find the history. Goes back to the war time and the making of the diver watch for the special services of the French military Ops.

Hmm interesting, looked on their site and could not get past the pop up stuff to look for a bit of a history section. Quite a flashy website.

Love their watches tho.
