What do you REALLY think about the Daytona

EDIT: FORGOT the Poll, please use this thread!

Not to flame Daytona lovers, but in my 1.2 years here, I've noticed that members' opinions about the Daytona tend to live on opposite sides of the spectrum. As such, let's get it out and done. What's your opinion of the Daytona?

I think the chase is most of the appeal for the SS Daytona. It's a beautiful watch but way overrated & overpriced in my opinion.

There was a time that I lusted after a stainless Daytona....white for me as I'm not crazy about the black dial. I guess I 'got over it'. I've tried one on a couple of times and I still think it's a beautiful watch - just don't HAVE TO HAVE it. Of course if my husband decided to just buy me one anyway......LOL!

My 2 cents: SS: beautiful watch but way too much money; a Zeith El Primero has more functions and amazing dial (not to mention clear caseback) for a fraction of the price. Now, on the 2T and gold versions; that's another story! I love mine (1 month old) and the new rose gold is superb.

I mean in the time it took me to re-create the thread with a poll, there were several posts on this one!

I don't care too much for the Daytona. Anything without a date function does not appeal to me. The chronograph feature is useless to me as well.

I love the look.
I hate the price.

Would like more dial options like the good ole days that I never knew about.
Would like an aluminum bezel insert.

IF, I were to get a chrono, it would most likely be a Speedy Pro or Speedy Alaska.

For the money, 10k, there are many watches I like more, but that said, I may one day have a Daytona if I don't know what else to do with my money.

Voted: I like the Daytona, and may consider one some day

I think it's one of the best chrono movements out there, but a few things led me to part company with a SS model.

1. While iconic, I find the bezel to be busy and not really all that useful.

2. Absence of a date function and very poor lume (even by Rolex stds) weren't show stoppers but disappointing.

3. Have to admit, being able to flip it after wearing it for six months for a $4K profit was just too tempting. I found I just wasn't wearing it and used the cash to finance another Rolex purchase.

Having another decent SS chrono (VC OS) before the Daytona may have dampened my excitement for it too.

Again, no attack on a classic watch, just saying why it seemed not to smile to me. I voted "ambivalent."

I like the Daytona but would feel like poseur wearing it - I only need to tell time and know the date, but it doesn't even have a date function.... I'd never use all the other functions so it would seem silly to me to have one.

I have been off and on the fence on the Daytona. I think the whole waiting for the call for the stainless is not worth it for me. I think for others, it it is your grail I say go for it.

As far as the Daytona in general. I think it is a great looking watch. I have to say when I am watching the Rolex race series, especailly the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona, my want for one goes up. It is truly an iconic watch for race fans.

I wish it had a date, but having other watches without dates, I would have no problem wearing one.

To sum up my opinion,if I had the cash today to go out and get a Daytona, I would get a two tone. So I can say, I like the Daytona.

I like the Daytona, but can think of quite a few other watches I'd buy for the same price. If I didn't already have my Speedmaster the answer may have been different

Great movement but hate the steel bezel and polished centre links not a fan of the modern Daytona all all.But say with the dial and bezel of my 6263 then perhaps I could get excited over the SS Daytona.

Love the Daytona, and will not rest until I have one. While I love the look of some of the TT models, the SS is a must for me. I can only imagine the amount of marring that I'd put on the soft gold bezel...

No date doesn't bother me at all. I like the convenience of it on my sub, but I don't use it all that often.

Wifey ADORES the white-faced two-tone model, though she isn't averse to the white-face SS, either.

I never wanted one and then several months ago got a call from an AD who offered a white dial SS to me.

I bought it and it has grown on me. I love the fit. It's probably one of the most comfortable watches I own.

I just wish it were more legible.

Will I keep it forever? I dunno.

Will I keep it for the foreseeable future? Yes.
